We are not new to the car show scene, having been the 2011 Royal Purple SEMA Show Feature Vehicle, 2011 Point Imaging SEMA Show Product Demonstration Feature Vehicle, First In Class/Bonneville Salt Flats-Land Speed Racing 2013 Palo Alto Concours d’Elegance, First Place/Competition Class/2013 Northern Nevada Street Fever Car Show, ‘Feature Car’-Capital Classics/Summit Racing Car Show, June 2013, all with The Royal Purple Maxx2Racing ‘Bad Bird’ LSR Race Car. That car is a full bore race car, setting records everywhere it ran.
If you are not familiar with our team, this is the third car we have built in our home car shop(s). The current shop is 16’ x 25’, with a 4 post car lift, a necessary component to working on these cars. The first ‘build’ was our ’69 El Camino Pro Touring-Pro Street LSR Race Car (Since sold as a “Roller”), followed by the RP ‘Bad Bird, and now the ’99 Firebird. The El Camino and the Firebird were full builds, with the ‘Bad Bird’ being a ’97 Nascar Superspeedway Ford T-bird “Roller”, then adding the Nascar Motor, Transmission, and gearing of our choice.
The new ‘build’, aptly named ‘Stealth’, is ‘stunning to say the least. We do not pretend to compete with the top builders in the country, as they mostly build ‘one-off’ cars that are mostly hand fabricated for special clients.
What we do build are ‘real world’ cars, except for the ‘Bad Bird’, capable of high speeds, with the ultimate in safety built into the design of the car, and as noted, street legal in all aspects. Everything functions as a unit, with little if any special fabrication of parts or pieces necessary. One can build these cars in their home shops to drive, as comfortable as any new car on the road, enjoying the functionality of each component matched to fit the car.
Arriving early Saturday morning (2:00 AM) at our hotel after 24 hours of no sleep, we were treated to something we did not expect shortly after our check in time for the show that afternoon. It would be tough to top the location for any ‘Feature’ vehicle, being at the North Hall Lobby, where most enter the show, wait for Limos and Taxis, and go up and down the escalator to either the Gold Parking Lot, or the upstairs meeting rooms.
Sunday and Monday were spent detailing the car, with Judy applying the sponsor’s decals on the car. The Covercraft, and Royal Purple logos, plus the dual racing stripes had been applied in October by Grafics Unlimited, owned by Jill Pauley, located in Sparks, Nevada. Judy had actually finished the door panels for the car, however, we ran out of time to install them on the car for the show. She spent most of the week meeting the sponsors, attendees, and contacts who wanted to view the different ideas incorporated into the car, which are many, discussing the different aspects of the car, and enjoying different parts of the show whenever possible. Something quite different with this car is its ‘finished look’. Street Legal, capable of 200 MPH, the car is fully carpeted and upholstered. The carpet was supplied by Covercraft, and matches their Custom Floor and Rear Cargo Mats. The upholstery matches the Ultra Shield Full Containment Seats in the car. It even has a ‘full’ Headliner.
We must express our sincere thanks to Tony Taylor, owner of CMF Fabrication, Fallon, Nevada for his professional work on painting the car. Tony spent months massaging the body, applying the layers of primer, sanding between each application, then applying the Exalta ‘Brilliant Black’ color and clears to the car, when not fabricating and machining parts for his full time customers. Tony actually was still rubbing out, buffing, and polishing the car the day before we left for the show. Dedication to his work ethic is first and foremost with Tony.
The Women of the Maxx2Racing Team, my dear wife Judy, and Tony’s wife Anne, spent much of their past few weeks assisting on the car. Judy upholstered the entire car, assisted in measuring and fitting parts to the car, and was instrumental in getting the car to its location at the show. Same with Anne, who spent days on the road traveling well over 1,800 miles, as Tony and Anne brought the car to the show on Saturday, traveled home that night, returned the following Wednesday, and then brought the car back to his shop that following Sunday.
This car would not have been at the show without the full support and dedication of our sponsors, team members, friends, and Media support of The Maxx2Racing Team. The list is long, with additional sponsors to be soon announced.
A very ‘special’ thank you goes out to our exclusive media support at the show, provided by WorldNewsVine, Robert Grone/Owner-Editor, Brenda Hyatt, Chief Editor, and Don Scelzo, Photographer. Brenda and Don spent many hours at the show photographing the car, the team members, and sponsors who took time away from their booths to drop by to view the car, and say Hi.
The car is currently ‘featured’ in Vehicles of the 2013 SEMA Show News Magazine at the link shown below. Scroll down the page until the picture of the car appears –

We honor the dedication of each and every sponsor on this new ‘build’, many of whom sponsor both cars. Without their full and complete support, we would not be at the point we are of as of today-

What’s next for the car? We’ll enter the car in the Cal Expo Sacramento Autorama, Feb. 14-16, and if accepted, they will assist in determining the class the car will be entered into. It seems to fit many different classifications; therefore, it will be judged against like cars. One class that seems to fit is the COMPETITION CLASSES/Land Speed, so that may be the class ‘we’ finally determine to enter. Another is Pro-Touring, late model. Note that Tony will again work on the body of the car for this show, rubbing out, buffing, and polishing it to ‘perfection’, as this is one of the premiere car shows in the Western U.S.
