Foxborough, MA (Jan 14)-The New York Jets and New England Patriots will battle for the third time this season. This time it is in the divisional playoffs with the winner moving on to the AFC Championship game. The two teams have split the first two meetings of the year. The Jets won early in the year and the Patriots won 45-3 just a few weeks ago. The Jets have revenge in their mind but even more then that they want to be in the championship game for the second season in a row. It should be a great battle that could get nasty.
There has been a lot of trash talk going on this week but that does not matter much at all. I do not think any of the talking will affect anything on the field. The two teams know each other very well and it comes down to execution. The Jets need to run the ball to have any chance of defeating the Patriots. The Patriots are on a roll and very tough to beat at home in the postseason. The Jets would like to get to Brady and knock him around but they have not shown an ability to get to the quarterback without blitzing and if you do that to Brady, he will eat you up.
The Jets best defense is what they did to Peyton Manning last week, keep the ball away from him by having nice long drives of your own and scoring some points. If the Jets can control the ball and put points on the board, they will have a chance. The Jets defense is good although they like to believe it is great, it does not have the pass rush to be considered great.
The Patriots can make any defense not look so good. I don’t think you’re going to stop the Patriots so the best way is to not let them get the ball, if the Jets win the toss they need to get the ball and set the tone. If the Patriots score early, it will be very difficult for the Jets.
The Jets need to stick with the run even if they get behind, that will not be easy to do, but once they go away from their strength that is when they will be in trouble. I think it will be a good battle and the Patriots will win by a touchdown but turnovers and special teams could play a huge role. The Jets need to limit the mistakes and try to take advantage of any the Patriots may make; they do not usually make many so you have to capitalize if they do. I think the winner of this game could definitely be the AFC champion although the Steelers and Ravens will disagree.
