Najibullah Zazi Pleads Guilty to Conspiracy to Murder Abroad and Providing Material Support to Al-Qaeda

The Justice Department announced that Najibullah Zazi pleaded guilty today in the Eastern District of New York to a three-count superseding information charging him with conspiracy to use weapons of mass destruction (explosive bombs) against persons or property in the United States, conspiracy to commit murder in a foreign country and providing material support to al-Qaeda. Among other things, Zazi admitted that he brought TATP [Triacetone Triperoxide] explosives to New York on Sept. 10, 2009, as part of plan to attack the New York subway system.

US Commander – al Qaeda Tactics: Media Campaign or Media War?

According to General Petraeus, “There is no question that al Qaeda in Iraq has been significantly reduced in its capability and capacity” as stated to pool reporters at a security conference in Bahrain.

“The flow of foreign fighters through Syria has been reduced dramatically from 110 a month at the height of the flow to under 10 per month now,” he said.

Accordingly, General Petraeus states that, “What they (al Qaeda) have decided to do, we believe, is literally to conduct lower level of attacks day-to-day and periodically coordinate high profile attacks so that they get the big press bounce out of that.”
