The Health Care Reform Bill in the House, to many, lacks the key component to rendering this bill to be an affordable “option” – the “Public Option” that was a cornerstone of the original bill. As of today, the unfortunate position of this “Public Option” is, according to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, “dead”.

As the killings and violence continue in the Nigerian city of Jos, leaders of the Igbo extraction are divided over strategies to end the killing of their people in the Tin City, one of the economic nerve centres of Northern Nigeria. Most of the non-natives in the city had been evacuated by their respective state governments after the first major crisis earlier this year but some stayed behind, hoping against hope.

Two food substances have found their way to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commissions recall list.
First up, the Federal Food and Drug Administration (FDS) announced that Quaker Snack Mix Baked Cheddar is under a Voluntary Recall due to possible health risk. Basic Food Flavors, Inc. of Las Vegas, NV initiated the recall concerning their hydrolyzed vegetable protein (HVP) due to a possible Salmonella contamination.

In his weekly address, President Barack Obama said that the nation cannot lose the current opportunity to finally enact meaningful health care reform. At Thursday’s meeting on reform, both sides were able to find several areas of agreement, but there were some differences. While the President is willing and eager to move forward with members of Congress from both parties, American families and businesses cannot afford to wait another generation for reform.
