Introductions Please

Well with all of the fancy intros and hoopla surrounding the Oscars a few days ago, we here at the Rigg house had some pretty prestigious introductions of our own.  Readers may be familiar with Sidney (our Siamese Cat) and Milo (our German Shorthaired Pointer), and now for the latest member to join [...]

Hole in Jenga is Full of Heart!

Hole in Jenga is Full of Heart!

What can you possibly do with a tower of Jenga blocks, a candy dish of leftover valentine sugar hearts, a squirt youth hockey player, a pulled back muscle and boredom?  You can have a great big laugh!  Here’s how my son took a boring afternoon and pulled off some entertainment  and put his pulled muscle [...]

Dirt of the Day!

Dirt of the Day!

February 25, 2010 by julie rigg · Leave a Comment

The weather is sloppy, my radio lost its signal but retained the static channel, editors are in holding patterns on projects and there was a snow day yesterday filled with sledding snowball fights, hot chocolate and craziness.  Coming down from that frenzy, I find myself in a reflective mode before a big weekend of hockey [...]

My Valentine Flower…Coneflower Comfort

My Valentine Flower…Coneflower Comfort

February 11, 2010 by julie rigg · 2 Comments

The last several days have found me searching for tissues and tea. Yes, a cold had taken up residence in my head, my poor aching throbbing head. I always reach for tea to feel better and warm, but I hadn’t considered a tea to actually, really help me with combating a cold. But, there it was on the grocery store shelf – Organic Echinacea Plus Tea by Traditional Medicinals. The Echinacea flower (coneflower) is one of my favorites, so when I saw its lovely image on a box of tea I couldn’t resist. And it touts a supporting of the immune system! Lucky me. But what would this flowered tea taste like and would it help?

Taking a look at my assortment of teas, I decided it was about time to organize the bunch of it. I’ve been a tea drinker for a long time and over the years have discovered that one can be rejuvenated or relaxed by all of the combinations available on the market. White and Green teas can give you a boost of energy without all of the jitters like

Monday Monday

Usually my Modays are just a wreck with lateness and things being delayed or not done at all.  Today, Monday, January 11, 2010 was a great Monday, with none of the nonsense that normally plagues my beginning to the week.
First stop, coffee.  The young one wants skates tightened to glide a little before his Monday [...]

Resolving to…

Resolving to…

January 6, 2010 by julie rigg · 1 Comment

Just about a week into the New Year now, I find myself reflecting on past New Year’s resolutions.  I can’t seem to remember any though I’m sure there have been some.  I like to take this resolution thing month by month; maybe that’s why I can’t remember any specific resolutions.
As our hockey rink stands frigid [...]

New Year – Old Recipes

December 28, 2009 by julie rigg · Leave a Comment

We have just a few more days of 2009, and the promise of a fresh start in 2010 is on the horizon.
All around the world, people celebrate the New Year with foods for good luck.  I’m familiar with liverwurst, pickled herring, and black beans and rice to name but a smattering.  Many of the food [...]

Tinsel and Tails – Holiday Precautions for Dogs and Cats

The pets in our lives are probably sniffing around your holiday decorations – checking things out, smelling them out, and hopefully keeping away from ones that can potentially harm or even kill them.

Dryer on the Blink – But Dressing Like Barbie!

How is it possible that I am dressing like Barbie and do not have a working dryer at the moment, a moment that has lasted for a week now, but thank goodness is over today!
First it was the washer, a couple of months ago it wouldn’t work.  Just filled with water and would not empty.  [...]

Now that the holiday season is upon us and the weather is taking a turn for the cold – there’s only one more activity to add to an already full November and December in our house. The Ice Rink – my husband’s pet project from late November until the spring thaw every year now for the last six years.

So Thanksgiving has once again graced another Thursday in our year. With turkey and trimmings, family and good friends, we all probably have at least one thing to be thankful for. Whatever that one thing may be, this is the time of year when we sit back and take a look what we have, and more often than not, families agree that the family itself is the one thing we are thankful for.

The dogs I met were both so calm – I could only think ‘I should have spent more time training Milo beyond basics, I could have such a better behaved dog.’ Not that Milo isn’t behaved, but he could use some refining. My mind kept going back to what might be going on at home. Milo would be playing with the cat, hovering over the sofa
