Nigeria Youths Patriots (NYP), a non-governmental organization has described the appointment of Alhaji Lamido Sanusi Ado Bayero, the Chiroman Kano, as the managing director of Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) as a step in the right direction to foster national unity.
In a statement jointly signed by Comrade Collins Ibe, president and Danjuma Galadima, national secretary, on Wednesday, 20 May 2015, NYP said that the choice of Ado Bayero was a divine one as The Chiroman Kano has demonstrated a high sense of maturity and responsibility when he was not chosen as his father’s successor when the late emir of Kano, Ado Bayero died. They said that despite being an heir to the throne which could have developed bad blood between the sitting monarch and him, Sanusi did not raise an eye brow but threw his support behind the chosen emir. Collins and Galadima said that the attribute demonstrated by the Chiroman Kano was a nationalistic trait that should be emulated by all.
The officials of the non-governmental organization called on all Nigerians particularly the ports authority management and staff to cooperate with the new managing director to take the Nigerian ports authority to greater heights. They further said that if given the chance, the Kano prince will bring a lot of innovations that will bring a leaf of change to ports administration in Nigeria.
You will recall that Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, the former governor of Nigeria’s apex Bank, Central Bank of Nigeria, was turbaned the Emir of Kano on 8th of June 2014 after the demise of Ado Bayero, the former emir of Kano.
The ancient city of Kano was a trans-saharan trade route that predates colonization and creation of Nigeria. Kano state is the commercial capital of Northern Nigeria and adjudged the most populous state in Nigeria going by the 2006 census.
