Las Vegas, NV (January 2015) The International Consumer Electronics Show (International CES®, produced by the Consumer Electronics Association CEA®), held its annual convention in Las Vegas, NV January 6-9 at several locations including the Las Vegas Convention Center, the Sands Expo and Convention Center, several hotels;  Westgate, Renaissance, Venetian and Palazzo, Wynn Las Vegas and Encore, and the Aria.  More than 160,000 attendees from 140 countries, with over 3600 exhibitors, and at least 20,000 new products were introduced at this year’s CES. Technology professionals kicked off North America’s largest tech gathering with the latest gadgets large and small.  Robotics, unmanned aerial vehicles, and autonomous vehicle technology were the highlights. The focus this year was expanding Robots as personal helpers and for the caring of humans, like the Five Elements’ budgee™, the friendly robot who carries your stuff.  Budgee carries up to 50 lbs, folds compactly for easy transportation, weighs less than 20 lbs when not carrying items, and can be controlled with your Smartphone or tablet.  He follows behind you at your preferred Follow-me™ distance.  With advance capabilities, robots are being built to serve as first responders, breaking through walls and cleaning up toxic waste too dangerous for humans.  Also in the spotlight, technology using digitization, sensorization and connectivity, in common household fixtures, where beds or chairs with sensors are able to detect health risks among their users. Wearable technology can measure exercise and exertion, or if you just wish to see how fast your tennis serve is, new technology can measure that, too. Drones, the unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), now easier to operate with a Smartphone app, do not need a separate unit to operate them.  Barriers of drone use for aerial filming have been removed.  In the past they were hard to pilot, easy to crash and expensive.  The app has tilt mode and auto following for smooth camera control.  In the future expect unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) to deliver products to remote areas, assist consumers and companies in their work, whether it’s firefighting, sports, photography, or delivering a pizza. Drones are allowing users to become part of the experience rather than just recording it. Drones are making an impact on consumers and businesses. AirDog International conducted demonstrations to show off its sports-focused aerial systems where the technology has developed to specifically address the needs of those in action sports. Driverless cars are now on the road in several states, including Nevada, Florida, California, Michigan, and the District of Columbia.  Today’s technology minimizes distracted driving using artificial intelligence, cloud, and robotics.  Autonomous devices help the driver by monitoring their behavior and initiates corrective action when it appears they are distracted using systems that monitor a wide variety of distractions with advance warning of road conditions, lane changes, and even daydreaming. CES Unveiled Las Vegas is a sneak preview of exhibitor’s assortment of gadgets before the opening of the show.  ShowStoppers®, organizes product introductions and sneak previews for journalists, bloggers, industry and financial analysts, venture capitalists and business executives. PepCom invited professionally accredited journalists and industry analysts to their themed “Digital Experience-I love the 80’s” technology demo event.  This was the largest press event at the International Consumer Electronics Show. These are must attend events at CES for industry leaders, innovators and startup exhibitors.  The events help generate news coverage and product reviews, make new connections, promote brands, and open new markets. To be a part of a community of like-minded professionals, join CEA.  There are many types of memberships including regular membership for companies that manufacture, distribute or develop technology used in CE products, or provide a technology or service which interoperates with or enhances a CE device.  Associate membership, Retailer/Integrator membership, International Affiliate membership, and startup membership are also available.  Some of the top reasons to join CEA; access exclusive consumer and market research and staff of researchers for help, gain access to government and legal affairs assistance, and track state legislative activity, to name a few.  CEA is a technology trade association representing the U.S. consumer electronics industry. Their mission is to grow and support the industry through legislative advocacy, market research, technical training and education, industry promotion, standards development and the fostering of business and strategic relationships. Everything new today was introduced at previous CES shows with the expectation of CES being home to the future innovations in technology.  The date for the next International CES is January 6-9, 2016, Las Vegas, NV.
