Oakland (Apr 2) – Early this morning the DEA backed by US Marshalls with the IRS in tow, raided two separate locations in an area of Oakland known as Oaksterdam closing both businesses for good.
The two locations known as “Cannabis Colleges” have been operating openly since 2007 when California passed the nation’s first medical marijuana laws used to train persons on the proper techniques to cultivate their own marijuana.
Crowds of medical marijuana supporters converged on the location carrying banners and shouting slogans as, the Feds decided to exercise federal laws that ban both the use and sale of cannabis for any reason. The Feds entered the buildings with sledgehammers, and chain saws destroying the contents presumably, marijuana plants hauling them to an awaiting van in plastic bags.
The move follows letters sent to various cannabis locations in California months ago by federal authorities threatening action if the owners failed to cease and desist operations. The move shows a shift in the Obama administration’s policy of turning a blind-eye on the medical marijuana industry.
