Syrian “Activists” May Lose Widespread International Support Experts Cite Links to al Qaeda

February 16, 2012 – In what first began as appeals to aid Syrian civilians under fire by Syrian President Assad now, have turned into concerns for nations fighting terrorism as, activists have turned to al Qaeda for support.

Assad has been relentless in holding on to power in this tiny Middle-Eastern nation with Arab leaders calling for him to step down. In doing so, Assad has unleashed vicious attacks on groups rebelling against his government in areas such as Homs where Syrian troops have pounded the area with artillery shells, tank fire, and rooftop snipers.

Unfortunately, for Syrians seeking to remove Assad from power, intelligence reports have linked recent bombings to al-Qaeda, or a faction of al-Qaeda operating out of Iraq. The latest developments are cause for alarm to the many world leaders that have been supportive of the movement as, fears that if Assad’s government collapses, chemical weapons will fall into the hands of the terrorist group.

It would be imperative for Syrians in opposition to Assad, to “weed out” and remove all elements, and ties to the terrorist group prior to receiving any such support in their resistance movement according to sources concerned about the new “connections”.

Currently, Russia and China have been the only two members of the United Nations to oppose any actions against the current Syrian leadership with Russia, commenting Islamic extremist groups such as those operating in Libya, would further destabilize the region.

In response, China has dispatched a delegation with hopes of finding a peaceful, and stable resolution to the matters at hand although, it would appear now, in order to garner complete global support, activists within Syria will be required to make the first move regarding disassociating themselves from any known terrorist affiliations in the region.
