February 2, 2012 – Punxsutawney Phil saw his own shadow during ceremonies held in central Pennsylvania this morning letting the world know, six more weeks of winter is on the way.
This may be encouraging news for most of the populous of the northeastern U.S. as, this winter has so far been one of the mildest on record. Along with most Americans, the news brought upon us by this friendly little rodent is meaningless as, records indicate the furry little weather forecaster has not seen his own shadow only 16 times since ceremonies began back in 1886.
Truth of the matter is, the Groundhog Club’s inner circle makes this decision prior to Phil’s appearance making this more of a joyful event than, an official weather prediction. Accordingly, history has proven the group along with their mascot, has a relatively low accuracy rate, just 39 percent over the past 122 years.
Punxsutawney Phil has made the rounds as a celebrity appearing on radio talk shows with his latest appearance just today as, a local meteorologist requested an interview with his furry counterpart, only to be declined comment.
