The Jets fail to take control of the AFC East

By Gary W. Marchese Jr.

East Rutherford, NJ (Nov 14) – The New York Jets lost to the New England Patriots by the score of 37-16 on Sunday night. The Jets coming into this game thought this was their chance to catapult over the Patriots and possibly take the division. However, the Jets though were totally dominated and once again the Patriots showed that they are the class of the AFC East.

Mark Sanchez was 20-39 for 306 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Shonn Greene led the rushing attack which wasn’t much. He had 13 carries for 61 yards. LaDainian Tomlinson had seven carries for 38 yards and Sanchez had five rushes for 11 yards. Santonio Holmes was the leading receiver catching six balls for 93 yards. Jeremy Kerley had four catches for 79 yards, Plaxico Burress had three for 39 yards and Dustin Keller had two catches for 37 yards. Tomlinson had two catches for 22 yards. Nick Folk missed his only field goal attempt and made two extra points.

Tom Brady was 26 of 39 for the Patriots with 329 yards and three touchdowns. Danny Woodhead had seven carries for 38 yards, BenJarvus Green-Ellis had eight carries for eight yards and Kevin Faulk had five rushes for eight yards. Rob Gronkowski was the leading receiver with eight catches for 113 yards. He had two touchdowns. Deion Branch had five catches for 58 yards and a touchdown, Chad Ochocinco had two catches for 65 yards and Wes Welker had six catches for 46 yards. Aaron Hernandez had four catches for 41 yards. Stephen Gostkowski was 3-3 in field goals with a long of 50 yards. He also converted four extra points.

The Patriots had a 6-0 lead after the first quarter, it seemed the Jets were hanging in there although they were being beat up. The Jets would get a safety in the second quarter to make it a 6-2 game. Sanchez would get a two yard touchdown run and make it an 8-6 game the extra point made it a 9-6 game in favor of the Jets. The Patriots would score right before the half to make it a 12-9 game and the extra point would make it 13-9. The Patriots would outscore the Jets 10-0 in the third quarter to open up a 23-9 lead. In the fourth quarter the Jets would score a touchdown on a Burress touchdown to make it 23-15 and the extra point made it 16. The Patriots would score two more touchdowns to close out the scoring and win the game by the score of 37-16.

The Jets are now 5-4 on the season and are a game back of the New England Patriots. The Patriots took both games against the Jets this season so it basically is a two game lead because the Patriots have the tie-break. The Jets will play the Denver Broncos in Denver on Thursday night. The Jets will have to forget about the tough loss quickly because they only have a couple of days to prepare for the Denver Broncos who have started to play well. They are lead by controversial quarterback Tim Tebow.
