Yankees offense is not there as they lose in Anaheim

By Gary W. Marchese Jr.

Anaheim, CA (June 4) – The New York Yankees lost to the Anaheim Angels by the score of 3-2 on Friday night. They managed only three hits so this one has to be blamed on the offense. Ivan Nova started and pitched pretty well, definitely better then he has in a few games. This was a boring game as there was not much action. Jered Weaver started for the Angels and pitched very well, the Yankees got his pitch count up but he still managed to pitch seven strong innings.

Nova pitched 6+ innings giving up eight hits and three runs with only two of them being earned. He walked two and struck out two. Nova is 4-4 on the year now. Dave Robertson pitched an inning giving up a walk and he struck out two, Boone Logan gave up a hit to the only batter he faced and Luis Ayala pitched a scoreless inning giving up a walk. Weaver pitched seven innings giving up three hits and two runs with four walks and eight strikeouts. He is now 7-4 on the year with a 2.14 ERA. The Yankees can’t be too ashamed of not hitting him as he is an ace pitcher.

Alex Rodriguez had a hit, a walk, Derek Jeter had a walk, and Mark Teixeira had a walk. Russell Martin had a hit and an RBI, Nick Swisher had two walks and Jorge Posada had a hit and an RBI. Rodriguez and Posada had doubles. The Yankees were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and they left five men on base.

The two teams will play game two of their three game series on Saturday night. C.C. Sabathia will face Ervin Santana. Dan Haren was the scheduled starter but was scratched with a sore back. The Yankees are 4-3 on the current nine game road trip. The Yankees have had their problems in Anaheim over the years and of course they want to win the series but they would be happy with winning a game and having a winning road trip. The Yankees will come home to start a three game series with the second place Boston Red Sox on Tuesday night. The Yankees have a one game lead in the AL East over the Red Sox.
