The Yankees win another series as Burnett pitches well

Bronx, NY (June 30) – The New York Yankees defeated the Milwaukee Brewers by the score of 5-2 on Wednesday night. A.J. Burnett started for the Yankees and he pitched well. Russell Martin and Jorge Posada hit big homeruns for the Yankees. Dave Robertson and Mariano Rivera shut the door on the Brewers. The Yankees have now won another interleague series, they have always played well in interleague play and this year is no different, as they have won every series.

Burnett pitched seven innings giving up two runs and seven hits. He walked two and struck out four. Burnett improved his record to 8-6 on the season and his ERA is 4.05. Robertson pitched an inning giving up a hit, he struck out two batters, and Rivera pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. Rivera picked up his 21st save of the season. His ERA is 1.72, he continues to amaze at the age of 41.

Brett Gardner had a hit, Curtis Granderson had two walks and Robinson Cano had a hit. Nick Swisher had a hit, RBI, a walk, Posada had two hits, and an RBI and Martin had a hit and three RBI. Gardner had a double, Cano had a triple and Martin and Posada had the homeruns. The Yankees were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and they left four men on base. Granderson had a stolen base and Nunez made an error. Granderson also had an outfield assist.

Ryan Braun had an RBI single in the first inning to give the Brewers a 1-0 lead. In the fourth inning, Cano hit a triple followed by a Swisher RBI single to tie the game at one. Martin hit a three-run homerun to make it 4-1 Yankees. In the sixth inning, Prince Fielder grounded into a force out allowing a run to score. The score was 4-2 and then Posada hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the sixth inning. The play had to be reviewed and overturned. It was not ruled a homerun on the field.

The Yankees will try and sweep the three game series on Thursday afternoon. C.C. Sabathia will be on the mound for the Yankees. The Yankees won two out of three in Chicago against the Cubs and then two out of three at Cincinnati. They have come home and won two out of three against Colorado and now are looking for the sweep of Milwaukee. The Yankees have always played well in interleague play and are taking advantage of it this year. The Yankees are 2 ½ games ahead of the Boston Red Sox for first place in the AL East. The Tampa Bay Rays are 3 ½ games behind. It is a tough division and the Yankees have the best record even with being 1-8 against the Red Sox.
