Yankees win in a blowout 13-2 to win their third straight

By Gary W. Marchese Jr.

Baltimore, MD (May 20) – The New York Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles by the score of 13-2 on Thursday night. C.C. Sabathia pitched a great game but even before he took the mound he had a 5-0 lead.

The offense was on fire in this game; they had all kinds of hits and scored more runs, than they have in a very long time. The offense has been struggling big time and maybe they will relax now and be back on track. They have a lot of players that have been underachieving and it is time for those guys to pick it up.

Sabathia pitched eight innings giving up seven hits, he struck out nine without allowing a walk. Sabathia improved to 4-3 on the year, his ERA is at 3.06. Amaury Sanit pitched an inning giving up three hits and two runs. The starting pitching the last two nights has been nearly unhittable; the Yankees of course hope this continues into the weekend against the Mets.

The offense was on fire and just about, everyone contributed. Derek Jeter had two hits and an RBI, Curtis Granderson had two hits and an RBI and Eduardo Nunez had a hit and two RBI, he was a pinch hitter late in the game. Nunez hit his first homerun of the season and second of his career. Mark Teixeira had a hit and three RBI, Alex Rodriguez had a walk, and Robinson Cano had a hit, walk and was hit by a pitch. Russell Martin had two hits and a walk, Jorge Posada had a hit, RBI and two walks.

Nick Swisher had two hits, four RBI, and a walk and Brett Gardner had two hits and an RBI. Swisher really needed a game like this. He has been slumping all year and this maybe his turning point. Swisher is a better hitter then he has showed and it is about time for him to pick it up.

The Yankees jumped on the Orioles right in the first inning with five runs. Jeter hit a leadoff double followed by a Granderson RBI triple. Mark Teixeira hit a groundball for an RBI and Swisher later hit a three run double. It was 5-0 Yankees. In the fourth inning, Gardner hit an RBI triple followed by a Jeter RBI triple. It was 7-0 Yankees and the rout was on. Teixeira hit a two-run homerun to make it 9-0 Yankees. In the fifth inning, Swisher hit an RBI single to make it 10-0. In the sixth inning Posada had an RBI double to make it 11-0 and in the ninth Nunez hit a two run homerun to make it 13-0.

The Yankees swept the short two game series in Baltimore and now have won three games in a row after just losing six in a row. The Yankees will head home to take on the Mets in the first subway series of the year at Yankee Stadium. Freddy Garcia will take on R.A. Dickey. The Yankees are 23-19 on the season and one game behind the division leading Tampa Bay Rays.
