The Yankees struggles continue as they get swept by the Red Sox

By Gary W. Marchese Jr.

Bronx, NY (May 16) – The New York Yankees lost to the Boston Red Sox on Sunday night by the score of 7-5. It was their fifth straight loss, which they have not done since 2009. The Yankees are also 3 for 9 in their last 12 games and really haven’t played well in about three weeks. They are in a very bad stretch, the pitching has actually been good but the hitting, and defense is bad. They are making a lot of mistakes, mental and physical which are costing them and that is what is the most frustrating. The Yankees do not just lose they give games away and that cannot allow that to continue to happen.

Freddy Garcia made the start and pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up six hits and five runs with four of them being earned. He had two walks and four strikeouts. Garcia took the loss and is 2-3 on the year. Boone Logan pitched 2/3 of an inning and got both of those outs, Dave Robertson pitched one inning giving up an unearned run, walking three and striking out three. Joba Chamberlain pitched one inning giving up a hit and a run and Mariano Rivera pitched one inning giving up a hit and a walk and striking out one batter.

Curtis Granderson who has been the Yankees best hitter had a hit and two RBI. Mark Teixeira had two hits and an RBI, Alex Rodriguez had a hit, and Robinson Cano had a hit and a walk. Nick Swisher had a walk, Andruw Jones had a hit, and an RBI and Jorge Posada had a pinch-hit walk.

Posada got a standing ovation when he stepped to the plate; he apologized before the game to his manger and the general manager, the Yankees accepted his apology with no disciplinary action planned. The Yankees and Posada just want to move on now.

Russell Martin had three walks and Brett Gardner who has been hot of late was 0-4. The Yankees were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.

The Yankees finished their home stand with a 1 for 5 record, and will hit the road to play the Tampa Bay Rays. The Yankees and Rays will play two games and then the Yankees will head to Baltimore for two games.

The Subway Series will begin Friday night in the Bronx. The Yankees would like to get going on the road and end their swoon. The Rays are in first place by two games and the Red Sox are only two games behind the Yankees now in the loss column, one game overall. The Toronto Blue Jays and Baltimore Orioles have played pretty well also so this is a tough division and it is going to be tough for the Yankees this season. The Yankees really would like to wake up their bats and clean up their defense.
