March 28, 2011 – Two myths are making the rounds, one fairly harmless the other much less so. The first myth is that UFO’s were flying in formation over Colorado last week, and the second is that Republican fiscal policies create jobs. What they do have in common is that one must suspend one’s license on reality in order to believe them.
While the only evidence left by the alleged UFO’s is an amateur video that has gone viral on YouTube, the evidence of the last Republican administration’s “job creation” has gone viral on the country. Record foreclosures, a record deficit and long-term unemployment, results of the Bush tax-cuts, have put many working class Americans in dire financial straits. What happened to the promised prosperity? Well, it went to the top.
Now the GOP is at it again, offering a solution to joblessness by maintaining tax relief for the wealthy. However, their trickle-down theory has been thoroughly discredited, so much so that they rarely use the term anymore.
No, today they are all about cutting the budget to create jobs, which makes about as much sense as aliens needing red headlights on their spacecraft. If it were true, it would take even more suspension of belief to square it with the public, who may not be as easy to convince as they were a decade ago. Scraping to put food on the table will do that to a person.
