Jets finish season with a blowout win over the Bills

By Gary W. Marchese Jr.

East Rutherford, NJ (Jan 2) – The New York Jets were already in the playoffs so this game was just a tune-up. Mark Sanchez was not a factor in their win over the Bills, 38-7 as he sat the sidelines for most of the game.

The Jets had already secured a wildcard playoff spot for the second straight year prior to meeting the Bill’s in the season finale. The Jets made it all the way to the AFC Championship game last year and have their sets sight on the Super Bowl this year. They will have to take on the Indianapolis Colts in Indy. That will not be an easy game but the Jets are confident just like their head coach who said they expect to win a Super Bowl not just make the playoffs.

Sanchez started but did not attempt a pass as he is battling shoulder soreness. Mark Brunell was 6-12 for 110 yards, two touchdowns and he threw one interception. Kellen Clemens was 1-2 for six yards and Brad Smith was 1-1 for three yards. Joe McKnight carried the ball 32 times for 158 yards, Brad Smith had five rushes for 60 yards, and John Conner had eight rushed for 44 yards. Braylon Edwards caught one pass for 52 yards, Jerricho Cotchery caught three for 32 yards, and Antonio Holmes had one catch for 17 yards. McKnight had two for 15 yards. Nick Folk kicked one field goal and five extra points.

The defense was all over the Bills, they recorded three sacks. They held the Bills to 37 yards rushing and 130 yards passing. This game was never in doubt and the Jets looked like a team that had something to play for. Sanchez joked he had to keep the streak alive and watch out Brett as he handed the ball off nine times and then took a seat for the rest of the game. He said it was fun to watch. LaDanian Tomlinson, Shonn Greene, Darrelle Revis, and Antonio Cromartie all had the day off.

This was the fourth 11-win season in franchise history and first since 1998 when the team went to the AFC championship game. The Jets will head to Indianapolis to play the Colts on Saturday night. Rex Ryan the head coach said, “We are ready to do what we set out to do. If somebody is going to beat us then they must be really good.” The Jets would like to get some revenge as they lost to the Colts in last season’s AFC Championship game. The Jets will be playing for real next week and ready for whatever comes their way, everyone will see if they are good enough to back up their head coaches boasts.
