Yankees Post Season Report | In Florida laying out plans to move forward

By Gary W. Marchese Jr.

Tampa, FL (Nov 2) – The New York Yankees spent Monday and Tuesday in Tampa mapping out their plans for the offseason and going into next season, Brian Cashman the general manager met with the owners Hank and Hal Steinbrenner along with other Yankees brass.

Steinbrenner was to give Cashman his marching orders and a budget that he will not say publicly but it is believed to be around 200 million or a little more right around where they were last season.

The Yankees are expected to pursue Cliff Lee and I do not think that has changed. The Yankees first order of business though is to find a pitching coach as well as resigning their other coaches. The Yankees did resign Kevin Long to a three-year deal for slightly over a million dollars. The Yankees love him and the players seem to really like him so that is not much of a surprise.

The pitching coach situation is interesting. Dave Eiland must have really upset them when he left the team in June for personal reasons. They could promote the bullpen coach Mike Harkey and then promote one of the minor league coaches; the name you hear is Josh Paul. They could go out of the organization for someone like Leo Mazzone although that appears to be a long shot as Mazzone’s reputation took a hit in Baltimore.

Gil Patterson is a name that has been coming up this week; he was a former pitcher for the Yankees. They could promote AAA pitching Coach Scott Aldred who has been with the minor league teams for several years the same path that they took with Eiland. I think they will hire a pitching coach quickly before they get to resigning or signing the free agents.
