Detroit, MI (Nov 7) – The New York Jets will travel to Detroit to meet the Lions at 1:00PM Sunday afternoon. The Jets were shutout last week by the Green Bay Packers 9-0 at home and they are out to avenge that loss.
Here are some news and notes as they prepare for the Lions this week.
This is the 12th meeting between these two teams and the Lions have a 6-5 edge.
This game features two of the top three kickoff returners in the NFL, Brad Smith leads the AFC and is second in the NFL, and his average is 31.4. This is the first time that Mark Sanchez and Matthew Stafford will face each other, they are both top heralded second year quarterbacks.
The Jets boast the third best rushing attack in the NFL. They average 153.4 yards a game. They have recorded nine consecutive 100-yard rushing performances dating back to Indianapolis on December 27, 2009.
Kansas City is the only team with a longer streak; they have gone 11 straight games. The Jets defense allows 15.7 points per game that ranks second in the NFL. The team led the NFL last year with 14.8 points per game; they are a whole point higher this year.
The Jets are 5-2 on the season, 2-2 at home, and 3-0 away, which is very strange. The Jets need to start playing well at home to have a great season. The Jets offense will be the focus of this game since they were shutout in the last game. They should be able to score some points in this game, Detroit is on a long road-losing streak, and if the Jets lose this game, it will be an embarrassment.
The Jets defense was good last week and will need to be at least as good, Detroit can score some points it is just a matter of how many the Jets can put on them. The Jets also need to protect the ball, which they do pretty well and try to get Detroit to turn it over.
I would think the Jets would win this game especially coming off an embarrassing loss. I would predict the Jets winning this game by the score of 24-14. The Jets are still chasing the New England Patriots in the AFC East.
The Jets would like to be 6-2 after playing half of their games. If they can repeat that performance and finish 12-4, they would be in great shape heading into the postseason. That probably would be good enough for first in the division but the Patriots are winning games despite not having a great defense this season.
