Houston Texans vs NY Jets | Jets try to put it all together

By Gary W. Marchese Jr.

East Rutherford, NJ (Nov 21) – The New York Jets are 7-2 and in first place in the AFC East. On the surface that looks great but the Jets have not been playing great football over the last month, a lot have said they are lucky. They like to say that good teams find ways to win and that is all that matters.

The Jets though want to put it all together and not need overtime or a great comeback to win. The Jets will take on the Houston Texans at 1:00PM today from the New Meadowlands Stadium. The crowd has been told to bring it by the head coach Rex Ryan and it is getting to be that point of the year where everyone needs to step it up. Here are some news and notes as we prepare for kick-off.

Running back Joe McKnight may be used as an emergency fifth cornerback against the Texans according to Rex Ryan. “We have had him working on some man-to-man. We’ll use him at running back, wide receiver, cornerback. Whatever it takes, he’s a good athlete. He is from USC like Dennis Thurman. They speak the same language.” That is what the head coach had to say about him Friday.

Wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery is out for tomorrow’s game and wide receiver Patrick Turner who was called up from the practice squad, he will be active for the game.

There were several members of the military at practice on Friday; tomorrow will be Armed Forces Day at the Meadowlands. They will have a fly-over and there will be a bunch of military personnel in attendance.

The Jets have never lost to the Texans and who are 4-0 against them all-time. The Jets defeated them last season 24-7. There is going to be a great battle between the Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson and Jets cornerback Darelle Revis. They are two of the best in the game at their positions, and will be matched up against each other for most of the game.

Revis held him to four catches and 35 yards last season and just two weeks ago shut down Calvin Johnson who had one catch for 13 yards. The Texans tight end is not playing tomorrow and besides Johnson they really only have one other playmaker and that is Arian Foster. Johnson has been hobbled by an ankle injury for most of the season and that could give an advantage to Revis.

The Texans defense ranks last in the NFL in passing yards; they give up an average of 302 per game. They are second to last in the NFL with giving up 409 yards per game on average.

The Jets under Rex Ryan have only allowed two 100-yard rushers in 28 games. Foster leads the league in rushing yards, touchdowns, and rushing first downs. This is going to be a tough task for the Jets defense and they have to be up for it.

The Texans have lost three in a row and four of their last five games. Their defense has been horrible and unless they score a ton of points, they are not going to win. Matt Schaub their quarterback is suffering from knee inflammation.

The Jets should let Mark Sanchez throw the ball more in this game and they should come out firing. The Jets will win this game by the score of 31-17. I just do not think the Texans have much in them and I think the Jets will come out with a lot of passion and play their best game in weeks. The Jets are headed to 8-2.
