North Las Vegas, NV (Nov 1) – Supporters, estimated at around 1500, waited for over three hours at Canyon Springs High School in North Las Vegas, NV today to hear First Lady Michelle Obama rally for Senator Harry Reid, Majority Leader.
We are only one day away and this is the toughest campaign for reelection Senator Reid has had to endure since his win in the US Senate in 1986. Past polls have always shown him 25 points ahead but today some polls reflect his opponent, Sharron Angle, as much as 7 points in the lead.
No one knows what the voter will do when they walk into that voting booth Nov 2nd. Some registered Republicans have said they voted early and voted for the top four Democratic candidates running in Nevada’s midterm election; Harry Reid, US Senate, Rory Reid, Governor, Shelley Berkley, and Dina Titus, both candidates for re-election in Nevada’s first and third Congressional Districts. The registered Republicans reason these were the better candidates.
Congresswoman Shelley Berkley, speaking at the rally asks the supporters “not to send her back to Washington without Dina Titus I need her we are a team”. Polls show Congresswoman Berkley ahead of her opponent in the polls, but Dina Titus reelection bid against Dr. Joe Heck is not as promising.
Today’s rally was all about get out and vote. This is “the largest phone banking operation in the history of the world” said Congresswoman Berkley. While on stage she and Congresswoman Dina Titus phoned people on their list, and ask supporters with cellular phones to phone someone and ask them to vote Nov 2.
Majority Leader, Senator Harry Reid took the stage to introduce First Lady Michelle Obama, stating “she has captivated the nation like no other First Lady has”. Senator Reid spoke briefly but one statement that will be remembered, “no one is going to privatize the Veteran’s Administration.” He then introduced First Lady Michelle Obama as “The Closer”.
She is lovely, and a very charming woman. First Lady Michelle Obama opened with “Harry isn’t just a good leader, he’s a good man.” She spoke as a mother and all about family when rallying the supporters for Senator Reid. “Her daughters are the heart of everything she does” she said, and spoke of how we all want to leave something better for our kids.
Health care was another concern for the First Lady, saying “If you get sick in America, you should be able to see a doctor”. “Barack’s mother didn’t get to sit and reflect on her life her final days,” adding, “His mother fought with the insurance companies when she had cancer and they said it was a preexisting condition,” said the First Lady.
After speaking to an enthusiastic crowd for over thirty minutes, First Lady Michelle Obama, asked the crowd to vote every single time and not just this Tuesday. She closed with “can we do this yes we can.”
