Las Vegas, NV (Nov24) – Burlesque opened today and it is a must see movie just for the choreography. The rating is parental discretion, and there are a couple of risqué scenes, but if you are looking for “burlesque,” this is not it. The girls are not topless; however, the moves are very exciting.
For those over 30 who have not been fans of Christina Aguilera, you will be if you see this movie. Cher, who has top billing, showed just how self confident she is as an established star, sharing the screen with Ms. Aguilera. This girl is talented.
Cher fans have waited a long time for Cher to do a musical, and she doesn’t disappoint, introducing two new songs. Ms. Aguilera co-wrote and performed three original songs. Listen closely and you will hear one of Cher’s classics as background music in one scene.
The movie is a predictable love story straight from the fifties. Ali is an ambitious small town girl arriving in Los Angeles only to be disappointed. She walks into a Burlesque lounge owned by Tess, played by Cher, who is not interested in hearing Ali audition. So, Ali becomes a cocktail server waiting for her chance. She finally forces Tess to watch her dance, where she lands a spot in the chorus line.
You have to see the movie for the rest but I promise when the credits start to roll, you want to yell, “I want to see this again!” It is a must see at least twice just for the musical numbers. They were flawless.
