Arlington, TX (October 31) – The Texas Rangers defeated the San Francisco Giants on Saturday night by the score of 4-2. The Rangers are now back in the series trailing two games to one.
Colby Lewis started for the Rangers and pitched 7 2/3 innings giving up five hits and two runs with two walks and six strikeouts. He allowed two solo home runs. Lewis who was a nobody before this postseason is now 3-0 in the postseason. He defeated the Yankees twice and trying to show it is not a fluke he pitched the Rangers back into this series by defeating the Giants who were riding high after winning the first two games of the World Series.
Jonathan Sanchez started for the Giants and only lasted 4 2/3 innings giving up six hits and four runs with three walks and three strikeouts. The Giants bullpen kept them in the game pitching 3 1/3 scoreless innings giving up two hits. They allowed one walk and struck out a batter, the trio of relievers were Guillermo Mota, Jeremy Affeldt and Ramon Ramirez. Darren O’day pitched to one batter and retired him and Neftali Feliz finally got into a game for the Rangers. Feliz pitched one perfect inning striking out two and earning the save.
The Rangers offense got production from the top with Elvis Andrus and Michael Young each getting two hits. Josh Hamilton hit a solo home run, Nelson Cruz and Ian Kinsler each had a hit. Mitch Moreland had a hit and three RBI. Moreland is an unsung player but he has come up huge in the postseason to help the Rangers get to the point that they are at.
The Giants only recorded five hits and no one had more than one. Andres Torres had a hit and an RBI, Freddy Sanchez, and Aubrey Huff had a hit. Buster Posey had a hit and a walk, Cody Ross had a hit, walk, and an RBI as he continues his amazing postseason run. Pat Burrell had a miserable game for the Giants going 0-4 with four strikeouts. Ross hit another home run which is his fourth or fifth of the postseason.
The Giants were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. They just did not have many opportunities at all. The two teams will play Game 4 tomorrow night with the Rangers looking to even the series at two games apiece.
The matchup is scheduled to be Tommy Hunter vs. Madison Bumgarner. The game will be a 7:00PM Halloween night start.
The Rangers are 8-0 this postseason when allowing 3 or fewer runs and 0-6 when allowing more than three runs. If the Rangers are able to tie this series up tomorrow night they will feel good about themselves heading into game five with Cliff Lee on the mound. Lee was roughed up in game one but no one would expect that to happen again and the game will be at home in Arlington.
