New York Jets routh the Buffalo Bills and start to establish themselves

By Gary W. Marchese Jr.

Buffalo, NY (Oct 2) – The New York Jets went up to Buffalo and put a beating on the under matched Bills 38-14. The Jets are now 3-1 and look like a championship caliber team that they have been telling everyone that they are since the summer. It usually is not so easy traveling up to Buffalo but it was today.

The Jets are off to their best AFC East start in 10 years. The Bills seemed to get back in the game in the last two minutes of the first half when they scored a touchdown to make it a 17-7 game but the Jets came back with 21 unanswered points in the second half and put the game away.

Head coach Rex Ryan said he sees the whole football team improving and just hitting their stride now. The rushing game was very good with Ladanian Tomlinson rushing for 133 yards and he had 155 scrimmage yards. Shonn Green had 117 rushing yards. It was only the third time since 1975 that the Jets have had a pair of three figure runners in the same game.

Dustin Keller now has eight touchdown receptions in his last seven games including the postseason last year. Dwight Lowery and Shaun Ellis had sacks for the defense and Jayson Taylor had a fumble recovery.

The Bills were 0-10 on third downs and the head coach said that is more like it. The Jets had 40 minutes of possession and the Jets started that with their second consecutive opening drive touchdown. Tomlinson touched the ball on six of nine plays and rushed for 42 yards passing Tony Dorsett in the process for seventh place on the all-time NFL rushing list.

In the first 20 games of the Rex Ryan regime, they had three games of 28 or more points and they have equaled that in the last three games with totals of 28, 31, and 38 points. Tomlinson had his first 100+ rushing game since 2008.

The Jets did have a couple of injuries, Shaun Ellis left with a knee injury in the third quarter, and Erick Smith left with an illness. The Jets will now play the Minnesota Vikings next Monday night at home. They are 3-1 and in first place in the AFC East.
