Yankees News and Notes on a Tuesday evening

By Gary W. Marchese Jr.

Bronx, NY (Sept 7) – The New York Yankees were hoping to get C.C. Sabathia his 20th victory for the first time in his career but it wasn’t meant to be on this night. Sabathia will have a few more chances and I am sure he is going to get it and more.

Alex Rodriguez got the night off to rest, as he said a precaution by the manger.

Here are some news and notes around the Yankees.

It was the first loss that Sabathia has suffered at home in over a year. He had an incredible run of success at home before tonight. The thing about baseball is it is very humbling and everyone has a bad day, it is how you bounce back from it.

Jake Arrieta picked up his first major league win against the Yankees and beat them once again tonight. Sabathia came into tonight 13-1 against the Orioles.

Joe Girardi yesterday was certain that Andy Pettitte would need two rehab starts but today he seemed less certain about that. Pettitte will pitch in Trenton on Thursday. He said he has to make a decision after that start, he hopes he pitches really well and makes it a tough decision.

Mark Teixeira was named the AL player of the week for last week. He reached base safely in all seven games played last week and guided the team to six wins as they stayed atop the AL East. He led the league with a 476 batting average, eight RBI and a 633 on base percentage.

The Yankees held a fundraising event tonight to help the Jorge Posada foundation. Jorge Posada’s wife Laura was in the H &R block Suite Lounge from 5-8PM. They unveiled the new hip hip Jorge T-shirts commemorating his 1000th RBI.

Nike designed the shirts and they will be on sale exclusively at Yankee Stadium team stores and Modell Sporting Goods with 100 percent of the net proceeds going to the Jorge Posada foundation.

Nike in addition donated $5,000 dollars to the foundation and the first 200 sales of the T-shirt Nike have pledged to donate all the money to the foundation.
