Hurricane Earl Strengthens off East Coast Ends Holiday Plans for Millions

NY, NY (Sept 02) – Hurricane Earl had strengthened to a Category 4 storm promising to wreak havoc on coastal areas throughout the holiday weekend. The National Hurricane Center just released an update regarding Earl downgrading it once again to a still, dangerous Category 3 hurricane. Experts warn the storm could strengthen once again as it travels northward towards the northeast coastline.

Earl is located almost due east of the Florida-Georgia border, barreling northward along the eastern seaboard coast.

Currently Hurricane watches have been issued for the coasts of Massachusetts from Westport Eastward around Cape Cod including, Martha’s Vineyard, and Nantucket Island. A Tropical Storm warning is in effect from New Haven, Connecticut to Westport including, Rock Island.

Hurricane Earl was packing winds near 140 mph earlier, heading for the North Carolina coastline. Earl is expected to affect the coastline in the region by sometime today.

Tropical Storm warnings have been issued northward through the Canadian borer. Five day tracking has Earl passing directly through New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.

The winds from Earl which, has grown to the size of the state of California, has dangerous winds stretching over 90 miles from the eye of the storm. Reports from the National Hurricane Center are predicting the eye of the storm will remain approximately 30 to 75 miles east of the Outer Banks.

This places Cape Hatteras, close to the western edge of the eye, certainly to cause serious beach erosion and probable property damage to the area. Cape Hatteras is preparing for the worse, preparing for a strike of hurricane strength to their community.

Both residents and tourists have been evacuated from the area, ending an otherwise near perfect summer. Preparations are underway all the way up to the Maine coast in the event Earl swings closer to the coastline or, storm surge conditions worsen.
