Gulf of Mexico (Sept 02) – An oil production platform 102 miles south of Vermilion Bay exploded earlier today. The blaze was contaned and captured on video by the U.S. Coast Guard. (Updated from today’s breaking news story.)
All thirteen crewmembers have escaped, pulled from the waters of the gulf after being blown off the rig during the explosion.
The Mariner Energy Oil rig can be seen fully engulfed in flames with no mention of efforts to douse the blaze underway.
Today, another oil spill is underway as, reports are coming in that a mile long oil slick can be seen spreading from the rig. Yet, another environmental disaster as a result of total disregard for the environment as, black gold still holds precedence over the planets future.
