Murfreesboro, TN (Sept 4) – Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives forensic labs has confirmed that samples taken from excavating equipment set ablaze at the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro, tested positive for accelerants.

Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office along with ATF, and the FBI are investigating an arson at the location on August 28, 2010. Authorities are keeping a tight lid on information surrounding the blaze other than to offer up a reward for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the person or persons involved in the incident.

There have been reports that shots were fired on location, as other mosques have hired security guards, installed surveillance cameras, and have requested federal agents to be present during prayer services.

The Murfreesboro Mosque has existed for nearly 30 years at their current location, and was considering on expanding the facilities at that location. No mention of what their intentions are now, or when the expected completion date of the project is.

During a televised news conference on Sunday by CNN, someone fired at least 5 shots near the property, no one was injured in the shooting.

Other Mosques around the state have been free of incident, nor have reported any acts of violence or provocation since the Murfreesboro incident.
