Utah (Aug 27) – Law enforcement agents are conducting a manhunt, in search of a burglary suspect responsible for the shooting death of a Utah sheriff’s deputy near the northern Arizona border.
Yesterday, a sheriff’s deputy was gunned down with a high-powered rifle near the Utah-Arizona border during the pursuit of an alleged burglary suspect. The shooting occurred about three miles east of Fredonia, Arizona located just south of the Utah border.
The burglary suspect, alleged to be a Scott Curley age 23, last known to be on foot, suddenly opened fire on Deputy Harris, 41, hitting him three times. The deputy died from his wounds.
Law enforcement officials are utilizing bloodhounds, helicopters, and a team of officers to search the remote desert in area to capture the suspect.
Deputy Harris was a Gulf War veteran with very close ties to his family and friends, was a respected and well-loved member of the community.
Reports of the suspect in the Kanab area have been received in the last half-hour, the suspect Scott Curley should be considered armed and extremely dangerous; citizens are urged to call their local law enforcement with information regarding the suspect’s whereabouts.
