Baghdad, Iraq (Aug 29) – In another tragic mistake of younger Bush, Iraq has now become completely destabilized threatening security throughout the mid-East and Persian Gulf.
Unlike his father, George W. Bush, reacted emotionally, and without proven justification sent then, Secretary of State Collin Powell, to the United Nations with a handful of lies. Now, Iraq stands to be overrun by members of al Qaeda, backed by nuclear capable Iran.
What were the common sense alternatives?
The obvious was to simply stand by the United Nations resolutions at the time, tighten up the no-fly zone, and with a possible expansion of ground troops on the perimeter of the no fly zone as requested by council members, focus attention on the manhunt for Osama Bin Laden. Another, failure of the Republican Party.
Instead, the lies grew, the rhetoric flew, which in comparison, was simply days after the “shock and awe” campaign drawn up on some cocktail napkin began. Another out of control Republican Party leader, lands on the deck of an aircraft carrier declaring “Victory.” Wrong again George, no one has won that campaign, and the American taxpayers will be shelling out more than their fair share for decades to come.
Meanwhile, in today’s Iraq, the civilian population feels less safe than the days of the Saddam Hussein regime, not knowing when or where they will be hit again. Backed by 660,000 undertrained Iraqis troops, minus any form of naval or air cover, Iraq stands to be overrun in a matter of minutes. If the lunatic fringe to the north out of Tehran lets loose, it is over tomorrow.
To make matters worse, reports are now being exposed that billions in contractor dollars were stolen, stolen by contractors awarded contracts on a “no-bid” basis by Republican Party leaders, and friends. Can the hypocrisy and loss of American life over this get any worse?
During the infamous, ‘First Gulf War’ then President George H.W. Bush halted further action into Iraq knowing full well that the final outcome of such action would be nothing short of civil war within the borders of Iraq. A tamed Iraq, an Iraq under constant aerial surveillance and embargo, was the stable Iraq.
Currently, the situation in Baghdad is now day-to-day, a wait and see game. With the nature of the ethnic diversity or possibly lack thereof, Sunni’s and Shiites, two groups that have not agreed on a single issue in centuries, are now at odds over the outcome of the most recent democratically elected government. If there is a government in Iraq, no one really knows or can say. Quite possibly it is merely “on paper”.
President Obama’s decision to end the occupation of Iraq, with combat troops, was a wise decision, and a year ahead of the former President Bush’s agreement for a complete pullout by the end of 2011. Thousands of American children, now combat veterans, gave their lives. Many sacrificed their futures as well, being horribly wounded, in what can simply be called a guerilla war.
Now, it is not simply al Qaeda and Tehran threatening the future of Iraq, Sunni Islamic insurgents have gotten into the act. Just weeks ago, a Sunni insurgent killed more than 57 civilians at an Army recruitment center, and suicide car bombers killed another 60.
The number of American dead totals 4,400 U.S. soldiers with an estimated 100,000 Iraqis civilians lives lost.
Every American should be proud of our soldiers, as they served, and continue to serve, under less than tolerable conditions. Even while American contractors cheated, lacked quality control, and caused illness and disease amongst our ranks young American’s served proudly.
The Iraqis civilians are now saying what many have said, the country has been destabilized to a point where the complete withdrawal of American troops only increases the danger, a danger that did not exist under former United Nations sanctions, that is prior to the pre-Bush Junior days.
The bottom-line is simple; George W. Bush was the worse American President in history. Not only were his foreign policies plagued by scandals and lies, his domestic policy driven by RNC influence has torn this country apart both economically and emotionally.
God bless our nation’s troops, and let us all pray that the Republican Party will become a party of honesty, and not simply continue to follow the path of evil they currently embrace.
