Washington, D.C. (Aug 21) – Where does freedom of speech end, and foreign influence over America begin, President Obama calls on the Republican Party to end their support of foreign influence over national elections by supporting the Disclosure Act.
Once again, Senate Republicans are choosing whatever avenues that generates as much negative publicity, and positive cash flow into RNC coffers to influence national elections, to eradicate the American Dream.
The necessity for transparency of government has been a quest for over a decade now, and Republican leaders want no part of it instead, insist on sleeping with “[sic] shadowy groups with harmless-sounding names,” the enemy of Democracy.
President Obama commented in his weekly address regarding this summer’s campaigns, and the need for transparency and the Disclosure Act, “[sic] Americans are already being inundated with the usual phone calls, mailings, and TV ads from campaigns all across the country. But this summer, they’re also seeing a flood of attack ads run by shadowy groups with harmless-sounding names. We don’t know who’s behind these ads and we don’t know who’s paying for them.”
The Supreme Court ruled in favor of an anti-Democracy, anti-American group at a time when the court was leaning in favor of the Republican Party, a decision that now allows big corporations to spend unlimited amounts of money to influence our elections. “[sic] They can buy millions of dollars worth of TV ads – and worst of all, they don’t even have to reveal who is actually paying for them. You don’t know if it’s a foreign-controlled corporation.”
“You don’t know if it’s BP. You don’t know if it’s a big insurance company or a Wall Street Bank. A group can hide behind a phony name like “Citizens for a Better Future,” even if a more accurate name would be “Corporations for Weaker Oversight,” President Obama pointed out adding, “We tried to fix this last month. There was a proposal supported by Democrats and Republicans that would’ve required corporate political advertisers to reveal who’s funding their activities.”
Unfortunately as our nations citizens have witnessed repeatedly, the Republicans blocked any chance for a better and brighter future for this nation instead, choosing to protect their own jobs, hidden campaign donors, and continue to deceive the American public.
President Obama, “But the Republican leaders in Congress said no. In fact, they used their power to block the issue from even coming up for a vote,” adding “This can only mean that the leaders of the other party want to keep the public in the dark. They don’t want you to know which interests are paying for the ads. The only people who don’t want to disclose the truth are people with something to hide.”
The necessity for open and fair elections, another struggle Americans have faced, especially in lieu of the events that determined two presidential elections during the turn of the century. A time when the same biased courts, and foreign slush monies poured into attack campaigns well beyond arms reach of the American voters forcing the majority to accept the minority wants and needs for greed, and power.
This can be solved by passing and signing the Disclosure Act into law. The Disclosure Act will allow voters to research those that find it necessary to spread fear and smear campaigns less, the fact that the same party, which is sheltering the creators of what in most cases, turn out to be non-truths, has not a solid or rudiment platform to run on.
President Obama summed the entire issue up nicely in his closing remarks for this week’s “Weekly Address” to the nation. President Obama taking the bi-partisan approach pointed out that it was a Republican President, Teddy Roosevelt who “[sic] first tried to tackle the issue of corporate influence on our elections. He actually called it “one of the principal sources of corruption in our political affairs.””
In closing his Weekly Address, President Obama stated, “We now face a similar challenge, and a similar opportunity to prevent special interests from gaining even more clout in Washington. This shouldn’t be a Democratic issue or a Republican issue. This is an issue that goes to whether or not we will have a democracy that works for ordinary Americans – a government of, by, and for the people. Let’s show the cynics and the special interests that we still can.”
The need for the Disclosure Act is a necessity to fight for true equality for Americans. When Congress returns in mid-September, they will be facing not only this challenging bill Republicans have blocked but, still have the fates of millions of American workers that have lost their jobs to fault of their own, along with Small Businesses reaching out for assistance.
These issues along with, all other issues designed to level the playing field for the nation, have been repeatedly blocked by the Republican Minority Leadership in the Senate.
The Senate will need to move swiftly on the Small Business Jobs Bill, Blocked by Senate Republicans creating staggering numbers of unemployed simply to sway national elections and place third world style influence over Americans.
The Americans Want to Work Act, Senator Stabenow’s newly introduced bill designed to provide further incentives, tax incentives to business that hire long-term unemployed American workers, those that have exhausted all their emergency unemployment extensions, will be another bill that will face an uphill battle. A battle once again being played out allowing the Republican Party to sit back and grin at the masses knowing they have the power to choose to watch millions of Americans suffer.
This is an issue of choosing to support American’s by the passage of the Disclosure Act. This would force the Republican Party to expose those in foreign governments that are providing what can only be seen from the laypersons point as, espionage and anti-American activities and defeat the Republican Party end-game, complete control over a once free society leaving the masses out in the cold, and seeing the Republican Party’s dreams of a “New World” order, come to fruition.
