Mets lose to Braves in last hope series for them

By Gary W. Marchese Jr.

Atlanta, GA (Aug 30) – The New York Mets lost to the Atlanta Braves tonight by the score of 9-3. Pat Misch started for the Mets and went to 0-4 on the season. He pitched three innings giving up eight hits and five runs with a strikeout.

Elmer Dessens pitched two innings giving up one hit and one walk. Manny Acosta pitched an inning giving up three hits and three runs with a walk and a strikeout, Oliver Perez pitched an inning after nearly a month off and gave up a hit and a run with two walks. Ryota Igarashi gave up a hit in a scoreless inning and struck out one batter.

Jeff Francoueur was the only met, with a multi-hit game he had two hits. Angel Pagan had a hit and an RBI, Chris Carter had a hit, and Henry Blanco each had a hit. Ike Davis, Josh Thole, Luis Hernandez, and Carlos Beltran each had a hit. Thole and Hernandez each had an RBI.

The Mets offense has not been able to do much at all for most of the season, their pitching for the most part has been good, but their offense has not been able to win games for them.

The Mets needed to sweep all four games of this series to even have a chance and they lost the first one. The Mets will play three more in Atlanta before heading to Chicago and Washington. At this point even though the Mets are not mathematically eliminated however, realistically they are and need to prepare for next season.

The Mets have been playing young players like Thole and Ruben Tejada; the rosters expand on September 1 and expect to see Jenrry Mejia in the rotation. I think at some point Bobby Parnell will be the closer so they can see if that is a possibility in the future and Jon Niese and Pat Misch have already been in the rotation two young left-handers.

The Mets would like to finish the season strong for no other reason than to have a good feeling going into the winter.
