Brownsville, TX (Aug 30) – Yesterday, at the busy Los Indios International Bridge border crossing, CBP inspectors seized another 92 pounds of marijuana being smuggled into the U.S.
A ford Explorer approached the port of entry primary inspection booth, CBP agents referred the vehicle to a secondary inspection location. The driver of the vehicle identified only as a white male, 28-year-old, United States Citizen from Weslaco, Texas was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
Upon further inspection, Border Patrol Agents located two metal containers hidden in each of the Ford Explorer’s tires. Sixteen packages, weighing in at 92.5 pounds of marijuana concealed in the tires were confiscated.
The marijuana had a street value of approximately $92,500, the driver and the narcotics was turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) special agents for further investigation.
Michael Freeman, CBP port director for Brownsville, had this to say, “This load of marijuana will not enter our communities or reach the Rio Grande Valley’s children thanks in large part to the great work being done by our CBP officers on the frontline.”
