The National Industrial Court, Lagos, has ordered the Association of Resident Doctors and the Medical Guild, Lagos, to suspend their strike within 48 hours.

The Presiding Judge, Justice Babatunde Adejumo ordered the doctors to suspend the strike before 8pm on Friday, August 20.

He also ordered that negotiations between the doctors and the state government should commence on August 23 and must be concluded on or before August 27. Mr Adejumo asked both parties to settle the dispute amicably in accordance with the provisions of Section 20 of the National Industrial Court Act 2006.

Counsel to the doctors, Bamidele Aturu, told the court that the doctors would call off the strike if the state government showed a firm commitment to negotiate.

Doctors in Lagos have been on strike since last week over unpaid salaries and allowances.
