About 16 people in Gombe and an additional 6 in Katsina State have died of an outbreak of a disease suspected to be gastro-enteritis
Mohammad Umar, the Commissioner for Health in Gombe state said that gastro-enteritis has also claimed 16 lives in seven local government areas of the state, while it was also discovered in Tashar Gamji village of Kankia Local Government Area, Katsina State.
Mr Umar told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Gombe on Monday that the local governments affected were Gombe, Yamaltu-Deba, Kaltungo, Billiri, Shongom, Balanga and Akko and that in August alone, seven deaths and 233 cases were recorded in those areas.
WorldNewsVine learnt from a News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) correspondent who visited the affected village in Katsina on Monday that some 50 other persons were infected with the disease, which causes severe diarrhea and vomiting. Inusa Iliya, one of the people whose families were affected in the village, said that his child and five others died 24 hours after the infection, and that scores of others were suffering from the ailment.
