NY, NY (Jul 3) – The NBA Free agent period began at midnight Thursday morning. This is the biggest group of free agents in NBA history and most of them are significant.
Lebron James and Dwayne Wade lead the group but there are also good players like Chris Bosch and Amade Stoudamire. Carlos Boozer and David Lee are also on the list and Rudy Gay. There are so many to name and those were just a few.
It really is a crazy time; many teams have gotten under the cap including my hometown Knicks and Nets. The Knicks seem desperate to get James and I think if the does not go back to Cleveland they will probably get him. The question I have is what if it all blows up in your face then what?
James stated he will decide by Monday and once he is off the board the other chips will start to fall. It will be a crazy weekend of rumors but by the middle of next week, a lot could be determined.
This really could shift the balance of power, if James leaves Cleveland they will go from a top team to maybe a middle of the pack team or worse. If the Knicks get him they could become contenders along with another max player they will probably get. It looks like they are on the verge of signing Stoudamire.
The Nets have a nice young team but finished with just 12 wins last year. If they do not get the big guys they may turn to the lesser guys but which will also help them. There are so many ways you can go with the free agents and still come away a winner this offseason. It will be interesting to see afterwards where all the teams stack up and who the winners and losers are. It could also become a big bust if all the stars stay with their current teams.
