Albany, NY (July 29) – As reported last week by WENY-TV News, Senator Schumer stated there is legislation in the works for those that have exhausted all their unemployment benefits, the ‘99ers’.
President Obama last Thursday evening signed into law, the H.R. 4213 Emergency Unemployment Extension Act however; this provided no relief for those that have exhausted all their benefits. With 15 million Americans seeking employment and only an estimated 3 million jobs available, it is clear legislation should be enacted with the attempts, to bring assistance to millions of unemployed Americans suffering through this depression.
Senator Schumer’s statement during the interview sounded a promise of hope, “[sic] there are a number of people who have maxed out, they’ve been looking and looking for work but haven’t found it, and there is a separate act that would extend those benefits to them. Extending this was really important. There are some people who go beyond the 99 weeks and we’re gonna try to do that next.”
However, to date this piece of legislation has not come to fruition and has become very elusive. With attempts to contact the Senator’s Press Secretary have producing no results; millions are simply being left out in the cold.
In May, Issa Decker’s 99er’s petition was delivered to Senator Reid’s office for purposes of validating the document as well as, the hopes of persuading members of Congress to concern the bill.
The results of the petition, and attempts at contacting Issa Decker as a follow-up have also been elusive.
It would seem very unlikely that any legislation would be enacted considering the Republican Party’s continued commitment to their wealthy campaign donors, and inability to connect with America’s workforce.
Inquiries to various press contacts in the Senate have and at this time, no one seems to have a solid answer. Sources have stated that at this time, the issue has not been really addressed; WorldNewsVine is still awaiting a committed response from Senator Schumer’s office.

Your welcome…. I haven’t heard a word from Issa either… hopefully, she found employment… I will attempt to follow-up with one of the two I met with however, neither are authorized to release statements to the press… I will also, attempt to contact Senator Reid’s Press Coordinator although, the last time I spoke with him, he gave me an off the record comment…
Now, if it were me… I have this to say. You’ve all seen and heard what the GOP has been up to, they are simply refusing to budge on giving up their rich friends and are basically turning their backs on the unemployed well, basically everyone else
The last fiasco to extend unemployment benefits was an agreement with Senate Republicans to pass the temporary extension in March… H.R. 4213 it was the Republican’s bill… so in turn, the House determined the best way to cover the costs of H.R. 4213 was to rescind the expiring Bush era tax cuts to the rich and corporations… That went over like a lead balloon with Republicans in general…
So, if I were to make a statement, I honestly do not believe that the Republican party will agree to extending anyone’s benefits any further paid for or not so, even if a bill that would carte blanche cover the unemployed for the next year, even if it were paid for from recaptured tax monies or even TARP monies paid back, or if a trillion dollars fell from the heavens no strings attached, the Republican Party would not simply give that away to “commoners” that live in this nation.. they will fight this tooth and nail so, realistically regarding extending unemployment extensions for ALL once again, why bother even trying? If Senator Kennedy had not passed away, and those idiots in Mass. did not vote a Republican into office to take his place, yes, it could be done for the Senate Democrats would have held 59 seats not 58 and Senator Sanders (I-VT) has always supported American working families, that would have given the Senate the 60 guaranteed votes needed to push legislation through… So, if you want to point fingers… Try the voters in Mass… and trust me, there are more than the nations fair share of unemployed in that state as well… I would be shocked to see that guy retain his temporary seat come November and if he does, I will be thoroughly convinced that national elections can be rigged…

I agree with Scott Brown being elected was a mistake. The folks in MA were fed up with taxes, a decaying economy and a host of other things. In MA, the Dems had control for a long time, and thought an alternative (any alternative) would be better. Ironically, since Scott Brown got into office, he has had more protests outside his Boston MA office, than all the protests Ted Kennedy did outside his, in Ted’s entire career as a US Senator for MA.
But unemployment nationally is predicted to increase to around 10% into the fall and winter, and be as high as 9% until the end of 2011. Extending & expanding emergency unemployment benefits “until” the national rate goes down to say 7% only makes sense. It is cruel not to. Not doing so I see suicide, increase in crime and riots.
With the economy as is (with millions of unemployment benefit exhaustees), this morning on the Today Show, Vice President Joe Biden made the remarks, “We are not going to let you go without food or basic services.” Well many unemployed who have exhausted their unemployment benefits are now without food and basic services. Many have been for some time.
Anyway, let us see. I hope we all get through somehow. Good Story!

HR 5618 Was a quick replacement for H.R. 4213 that was stuck in the Senate — it was ruled that H.R. 5618 and H.R. 4213 (The senate hacked version) would concur consequently, putting that bill, H.R. 5618 to rest
