Indianapolis, IN (July 13) – The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) plans to participate in the Thursday, July 15, 2010, Black Expo and Job Fair to be held at the Indiana Convention Center and RCA Dome in Indianapolis. This is an excellent opportunity for the unemployed, and the group known now as the 99ers, to investigate job openings across the country.
The Black Expo Job Fair opens at 9 a.m. and ends at 6:00 p.m. CDT. The CBP also will be present from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., July 16-18 in the Black Expo exhibition hall “to provide information on the new Border Patrol agent position vacancy announcement, along with other CBP employment opportunities.”
While the Job Fair takes place in Indianapolis, national recruiters will be available providing information, answering questions, and discussing federal employee benefits. The recruiters also will provide assistance for those filling out the online application.
“CBP employees work in a variety of ways to secure our nation. Border Patrol agents patrol 6,000 miles of Mexican and Canadian international land borders in between official ports of entry and 2,000 miles of coastal waters.” Their primary involvement includes “the detection, prevention and apprehension of terrorists, undocumented aliens and smugglers of aliens or illegal goods at or near the land border.”
The CBP is a unified border agency within the parameters of the Department of Homeland Security. The U.S. Customs and Border Protection is responsible for keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the United States. In addition, the CBP also enforces hundreds of additional U.S. laws.
