Insurgents Captured, Narcotics and Weapons Seized | Four Children Murdered by Insurgents

Kabul, Afghanistan (Jul 4) – Recent operations completed by Afghanistan National Security Forces along with ISAF partners have succeeded in the capture of several Taliban, narcotics and the destruction of weapons. The destruction of these weapons is paramount in protecting Afghani civilians and other personnel operating in the region.

On Wednesday evening, a compound in the Wardak Province was surrounded by ANSF. As forces moved in several insurgents were located and arrested. A search of the compound revealed a large cache of weapons.

Saturday afternoon, and ANSF team with ISAF partners operating in northwest Kabul City, located a weapons cache containing ten Russian made tank rounds, both 100mm and 115mm hidden in the back of a taxi. An additional vehicle was stopped later that evening while traveling through the desert seizing nearly 350 kilograms of narcotics. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene into a nearby compound. Forces surrounded the compound, safely extracted all civilian personnel, and then took the driver into custody.

An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was located and dismantled in Ghanzi Province by combined force Saturday afternoon. Two men suspected of planting the device were detained in the incident.

In other news, insurgents attacked a crowded bazaar this afternoon killing four children, one man and injuring eight others in Helmand Province. The insurgents used an explosive laden motorcycle to conduct the attack on the innocent Afghani citizens.

Forces thwarted further death and destruction by locating a donkey loaded with explosives set to detonate in the same area. It is apparent no tactics are too low for the use by Taliban, al-Qaeda, and their terrorist recruits. The groups continue to attack innocent un-armed Afghani men, women, and children as Afghani’s attempt to conduct a normal daily existence.

General Petraeus has this to say about the incident, “Our enemies are doing all that they can to undermine the confidence of the Afghan people. In so doing, they are killing and maiming innocent Afghan civilians on a daily basis. No tactic is beneath the insurgents; they repeatedly kill innocent civilians, and they frequently seek to create situations that will result in injury to Afghan citizens,” adding “This brutal attack perpetrated on the Afghan people clearly demonstrates the Taliban’s deranged tactics to try to scare Afghans. Yet, it only shows that they have no concern whatsoever for innocent human life.”
