The President is the Executive branch of the government. Congress is our legislative branch. Congress makes the “rules” and the executive and judical branches act as balancing platforms. So while the President has been admonishing Congress for its lack of quicker action, he is not personally responsible for the hold up. You can put that firmly into the GOP party of no’s corner. The House itself seems better balanced (from my point of view), while the Senate in-fights. At its worst, the Senate appears (yes from the slanted Right) to think we all live in the kinds of lives they do – basically a lap of luxury to many millions at the moment. There is talk about a Tier V and the 99ers, however, if you’ve been following the whole H.R. 4213 process, you know that from the start, 99ers were never a part of the package. This bill is designed to ensure those currently within the process get what the 99ers already did, their full 99 week benefits.

Look, it is simple. Business and jobs are now overseas. There is an abundance of 3rd world labor here. The rich powerful and well connected will have first dibs on any decent jobs. Your chance of getting a decent paying and desirable job has fallen to about zero.

If we don’t place ultra-high tariffs on imported goods and kick out illegal aliens, along with placing a very low cap on legal immigration, we are doomed. It is in the cards, read ‘em and weep! An extension of time, a block of more weeks of job-benefit-welfare, is simply pointless! Don’t allow yourself to go from a Proud American Worker to a deplorable welfare recipient! It is going to take everything we have got, to insure every American has a decent job!

The 7 million people that are called the 99ers this bill does not help..Why does the president act concerened for the people when there was no talk about helping these 7 million people that still won’t get help from the congress..the economy still is not going to get any better and when november comes the economy is going to be ten times worse then now…

Is there any assistance, in this Bill, for the exhaustees; those whose benefits expired after 73 or 99 weeks? Many 10s of thousands are going to be moving to shelters soon. Myself among them.

I have been following this very closely myself, and was under the impression that the states are ready to start sending out payments as soon as the bill is signed. Now that remains to be seen.

I am outraged at how this government has turned out. Lets have tax cuts for rich because “they pay for themselves…they don’t add to the deficit”. No…it does add to the deficit! George W. wanted tax hikes and was sure that it paid for itself although his father, when he was in office, said that in fact tax cuts would increase a deficit and are “voodoo politics”. Unemployment almost completely pays for itself. You give money to the unemployed that is taxed, which they in turn will spend at merchants and retailers that will again be taxed also helping businesses. When you leave these people with nothing you are talking about 2-3 million people that are not contributing anything to the economy. The humane side says help those that have been stepped on and left high and dry at no fault of theirs.
Another issue to me is the fact that most unemployed do not want to receive unemployment, but good jobs. If the government is concerned about not helping those that are lazy make some good paying jobs for the unemployed. I mean lets break this down…there are 6 unemployed seeking 1 job. But whats also not added into that equation are the employed looking for other employment as well. And being out of work for a long period of time (even before all of this) does not look good to employers (although a bill was passed to provide tax cuts for hiring the unemployed). So I apply to a job and statistically 6 other unemployed are applying for that same job (mind you that is just a ratio it could be 15 or 20 applying besides me) but there are other people who are already working that are looking for other employment. So it looks like for most a snowballs chance. Its not lazy its inevitable at the moment. Many people don’t even realize that the government passed a law to give tax breaks to companies that hire the unemployed but it doesn’t look like much of an incentive for businesses.
I feel very sympathetic to the people of Haiti and the things that they had to endure but what kind of country jumps to help others but not their own? Lets continue to fund a war that continues to take lives and seems to have no end also in a place that we aren’t even wanted. We immediately jump for other countries but historically speaking when has another country ever jumped to help the United States. Did other countries move in to help during the Katrina disaster? We have got to think of those that make this country first then see what we can do for others.
