Bronx, NY (June 1) – The New York Yankees begin a three game series with the Baltimore Orioles tonight at Yankee Stadium.  Javier Vazquez will be on the mound against Brian Matusz.  Here are the lineups, news, and notes for today’s game.

Orioles Lineup: Patterson (LF), Tejada (3B), Markakis (RF), Wigginton (1B), Scott (DH), Wieters (C), Jones (CF), Lugo (2B), Izturis (SS)

The Yankees had a season high 18 hits in yesterday’s 11-2 win over Cleveland.  The Yankees scored six runs on seven hits in the seventh inning.  It was the most runs the Yankees have scored and most hits in any single inning this season.  Alex Rodriguez had a season high three hits and drove in six RBI, which is a single game high for any Yankees player this season.  Rodriguez and Robinson Cano hit back-to-back home runs, which was the second time this season the Yankees have done that.

Andy Pettitte improved to 236-136 with his win yesterday.  He became the only pitcher currently on a 40-man major league roster to be 100 games over 500.  Only 25 other pitchers all-time are 100 games over 500.  Out of those 25 pitchers, 18 are in the hall of fame, six are not yet eligible and one remains eligible.  The Yankees are 20-5 when they score first this season.  It is the second best record in the AL trailing only Tampa Bay who is 21-5.

Robinson Cano is 12-21 with six runs, three doubles, two home runs and 12 RBI in his last five games.  He leads the Yankees with 11 home runs this season.  He extended his team season high hitting streak to 14 games on Monday against the Indians.  The Yankees have three players at the top of vote getters for the All Star Game.  The results were released by MLB today.  Derek Jeter, Robinson Cano and Mark Teixeira lead their respective positions.  Alex Rodriguez is second to Evan Longoria.

The Yankees are 5-1 vs. the Orioles this season.  The Yankees went 13-5 vs. the Orioles last season.  The Yankees are 28-13 against the Orioles since the start of the 2008 season.  Cano has 17 career home runs against the Orioles, which is his highest homer total vs. any opponent.  Derek Jeter leads all active major leaguers in games played (226), hits (279), and runs (174) vs. the Orioles in his career.
