Cincinnati, OH (May 3) – The New York Mets lost to the Cincinnati Reds by the score of 3-2 in 11 innings this evening. The final straw was a walk off a home run by Laynce Nix. It was the first homer of the year for Nix who was pinch hitting. He hit a 2-2 pitch to right field off of reliever Manny Acosta. Oliver Perez started for the Mets and pitched pretty well. Perez threw six innings giving up six hits and two runs with four walks and four strikeouts. The problem with Perez is that he throws too many pitches because he walks a lot of guys as well as striking out a lot.
The Mets bullpen threw four scoreless inning until Manny Acosta gave up the game winning home run in the 11th. Jenrry Mejia gave up two hits and Fernando Nieve pitched two perfect innings with two strikeouts. Pedro Feliciano gave up a hit and walk in his one inning of work. The Mets offense did little off of Reds pitcher Mike Leake. Jeff Francoeur hit a RBI single in the second inning and Jose Reyes had a RBI double in the sixth that tied the game. The game remained tied at two until the 11th inning when the Reds won the game.
Angel Pagan had a hit and Luis Castillo had two hits. Jose Reyes and David Wright each had two hits and Ike Davis had a hit for the Mets. The Mets have now dropped three games in a row after winning nine out of ten at home. This is a good test to see what the Mets are made of now that they are dealing with adversity. The Mets record now stands at 14-12 and they are in second place behind the Phillies. John Maine will get the start tomorrow night against Mets killer Bronson Arroyo.
