Flushing, NY (May 7) – The New York Mets will begin a three game series with the San Francisco Giants this evening at Citi Field. The game starts at 7:00PM and the pitching match-up is Mike Pelfrey vs Jonathan Sanchez. The Mets are coming off a 2-4 road trip. The Mets have lost four out of their last five after winning eight straight before that. Here are the lineups, news, and notes.

The Mets have won seven straight home games, which is their longest streak since they won seven straight at Shea Stadium in 2008. The Mets are 5-0 in first games of a series this season at home. They are 6-3 overall in first games of a series. David Wright hit his seventh home run on Wednesday at Cincinnati. He hit his seventh home run last season on July 31. Wright has hit four home runs in his last six games. Wright has hit one home run at home and six on the road.
Rod Barajas leads all major league catchers with seven home runs. He has hit four in his last four games with a at-bat. Four of the seven home runs he has hit have tied the game or given the Mets a lead. He is one home run shy of 100 for his career. The Mets pitching staff has given up 25 home runs which is tied for eighth fewest in the NL and 16th fewest in the majors. The Mets have hit 23 home runs which is tied for 12th in the NL and 23rd in the majors. The Mets have hti 11 homers at home and opponents have hit six at Citi Field. After 16 games last season at Citi Field the Mets had 12 homers and opponents had hit 15.
The Mets have allowed three walk off home runs, which is tied with the Cardinals for most in the majors. The Mets and Reds combined for 11 home runs in their series and they were all solo home runs. It was the most solo in a series between two NL teams since 1973. David Wright extended his hitting streak to nine games Wednesday at Cincinnati. Wright is batting 400 with four home runs and 11 RBI during the stretch. Luis Castillo has reached base safely in 19 of his 20 starts. He has struck out only three times this season and once since April 19. The Mets rank 25th in the majors with a 231 batting average with runners in scoring position.
