Disappointment Continues in Gulf – Oil Spill Containment Box Fails on First Attempt

Gulf of Mexico (May9) – British Petroleum, owner of the Deepwater Horizon oil well, attempts to place a containment box over the well head to funnel the leak to the surface has failed. The containment box was set alongside the oil head as engineers determine their next move.

Engineers are also continuing work on a relief well designed to stop the oil leak unfortunately, that operation will take weeks to complete. Meanwhile, the disaster continues to pump hundreds of thousands gallons of crude oil into the Gulf of Mexico forever damaging the fragile ecological system for marine and plant life.

Scientists are reporting that while the containment box was being lowered over the well head, crystallized gases began forming at the exit on the box, preventing planned operation of the device.

NOAA has expanded its ban on both Commercial and Recreational Fishing in the Gulf Region, increasing the overall area to slightly less than 4.5 percent of the Gulf of Mexico federal waters. May 17 has been set as the new cut-off date for the ban while, the 4.5 percent area coverage is an increase of slightly more than 1.5 percent of recently covered territorial waters.

NOAA Administrator Dr. Jane Lubchenco and her staff will continue to meet with fishermen in the affected areas to listen to their concerns. “NOAA stands shoulder to shoulder with Gulf coast fishermen and their families during these challenging times,” Lubchenco said. “NOAA scientists are on the ground in the area of the oil spill taking water and seafood samples in an effort to ensure the safety of the seafood and fishing activities.”

An Investigation into the Deepwater Horizon incident is scheduled to begin May 11, 2010 and will be co-chaired by the U.S. Coast Guard and Mineral Management Services. The committee will be attempting to identify the factors leading to the explosion, loss of life, sinking, and subsequent oil spill of the Deepwater Horizon Mobile Offshore Drilling Unit, which began on April 20, 2010.

It seems that our human species is incapable of advancing to a better state without some catastrophe or disaster prompting and occasioning a a massive shift in our modus operandi. The lesson here is obvious but that does not mean anything because we as collective whole have affirmed repeatedly of necessity as mother if invention. We cannot somehow move proactively unless faced with danger of extinction or in need of satisfying our needs.
The fact that “drill baby drill” as a political mpntra echoed by the likes of Sara Palin sounds stupid and even foolish political idea; the notion that drilling at depths we cannot effectively function in and control now becomes like basic common sense is causing a right of center republican governor was first to declare a ban of offshore drilling, is nothing short of evolutionary. I wish we could evolve proactively as a human species but we are far too disorganized and self centered for that.

Isn’t it coincidence that the WORST environmental disaster in human history will affect “drill baby DRILL” Red States Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Georgia and crazy South Carolina? Not to mention Tennessee and Kentucky getting hit with un-heard-of flooding.

IF Democrats/Progressives were degenerates like Republicans/Conservatives we’d probably come up with something vicious and cruel like “we don’t want our tax dollars used to save your Red State fishing or tourism industry”. But the LEFT-WING really DOES love the USA and wouldn’t kick our fellow citizens when they’re down like the right-wing mental deficient’s do.

Get the government out of your lives, right? LET the Corporations have their way? THIS IS WHAT YOU GET! Profits over patriotism or the least bit of human dignity, social or environmental concerns. You think the multi-national corporations care about the American PEOPLE? Hell NO! I want to know something else… WHY is it that every other civilized nation on the planet, EXCEPT the USA, REQUIRES Oil drilling operations to have back up plans and top shelf shut off valves in case of emergency? I guess British Petroleum thought $500,000 was TOO MUCH for a workable shut off system. I know they LOBBIED in 2003 against the US government putting such REGULATION into place… (and I heard Cheney’s Halliburton is involved with this and other spills)
