Unemployed Without Extensions | 99ers Rally To Be Heard by Congress Monday

By T. Cahill

National (Apr 11) – Monday, April 12th, is a big day for all those who have been holding their breath for the Houses to reconvene and take the appropriate action to ensure unemployment extensions continue. The “99ers” are taking a stand to make sure they, too, are heard.

Jobless individuals who have exhausted all unemployment extensions, remain lost, unaccounted for, and without proper representation are stepping up their efforts to ensure Congress hears their pleas for continued financial assistance.

This segment of the United States population lives in day-to-day fear wondering how to keep going when no one in Washington deems to look their way. Having exhausted all unemployment extensions, and thus are no longer counted among the jobless, is a clear demonstration of how easy it is to play with the numbers. Congress and the President are anxious to provide hope that the unemployment crisis outlook is brightening.

As demonstrated by the response to WNV reporting on this subject, the Washington spin is a far cry from reality. No longer counted does not mean 99ers have secured jobs.

Issa Decker’s petition 99ers Need A Tier V exploded after WNV reported this option for millions of Americans who have slid through the cracks. With regard to this petition, Decker stated, “We’re now at 7,148. Tomorrow’s a big day for us.”

Decker’s appeal continues to be a banner to which those without unemployment benefits, yet still unable to obtain jobs, rally. Individuals who have signed the above-mentioned petition, received word last night, along with words of encouragement. Decker’s letter states, “Congress is back in Washington on Monday, and they are scheduled to bring the so-called unemployment extension to cloture at 5:30 p.m. We need to try to get the Senate to add weeks to Tier IV for all of us, and create a Tier V.”

As an American, it is every citizen’s right to be heard and represented. Suggestions include flooding the Senate switchboard with calls, in addition to personally contacting one’s own Senators.

The toll-free number to the Senate switchboard is (888) 245-0215.

America’s Democrat leaders are Senators Reid, Durbin, and Shumer.

The Republican leaders are Senators Mitch McConnell, Kyl, and E. Canter.

99ers are encouraged to call and speak with their Senators. Information on locating the contact points for each can be found at OpenCongress.org.

Decker stresses the importance of not only “flooding the switchboard tomorrow but continuing to do so all week long if they don’t amend the bill to include us.” Busy signals when calling, “[sic] means our tactic is working. I’ve been told the switchboard has a way of keeping track of how many calls are going to which office, even if busy. Call all day.”

UPDATE: May 29, 2010 – After vast amounts of publicity an individuals actions and “talk show”, and then the slanderous statements she has made pertaining to WNV’s crusade to Washington, we have chosen to remove all references to her web site and highly advise people to use caution when surfing the internet. Therefore we have removed all reference to said site and video we initially posted within this human interest story.

Thank you Theresa for being such a good friend and advocate for the 99ers!

    • Issa, you are more than welcome! Our country needs people willing to step outside their comfort (or uncomfort) zone and take action. By providing a means to be heard about the lack of financial aid for exhausted unemployment extensions, you are doing a real service to your country and your fellow citizens.

      Keep up the great work!

Thank you for creating such a truthful and well spoken video. I too am stuck in the rut of bureacracy. I have been unemployed for 7 months, my initial unemployment claim expired last week and I have been denied an extension. No, interviews, no jobs, no money, no house, no food!

Theresa Cahill! Thank-you for your news reports on our situation AND thank-you to Issa Decker for his tenacity in what is a shocking situation of omitting a segment of the 16 Million unemployed from HR 4213. I am not proud to be a American right now, I am 58 yrs old and have worked for 35 yrs with a stable work history of 3 Employers. I loss my F/T job in February 2008, took a Temp job for 3 mos towards the end of 2008 & dead silence in 2009, the unemployed should not have to beg for further extension of benefits weeks added to Tier IV or a new Tier V but thats what we’re doing while Congress in both houses enjoys their livelihood with their $170.000 salaries. Its comical that NOW in a time of Economic Crisis and a Recession with 16 MILLION people jobless and no viable, comprehensive JOBS BILL passed and signed into law! And Washington in their logic is all of a sudden concerned about spending.. What does Washington expect us to do? disappear? fall off the DOL rolls so the stats will look like there’s economic recovery when in reality WE know the truth. As Issa said we will FIGHT for a TIER V to SURVIVE until JOBS Thrive! We must make Congress act in OUR behalf because we didn’t create this crisis.

    • Hi Christine, you are right. No one in this country should have to beg anyone in Washington to do the right thing and take care of this country’s citizens! I find myself also thinking about the “nice” salaries and benefits those in Congress pull down. Watching C-SPAN is painful. They may be “working” but I’ve never seen a slower bunch of workers in my life. I’m sure those in Michigan on the auto assembly lines would agree. Don’t know if it’s because they have the knowledge and comfort that none of this is affecting THEIR families or lifestyle or just the simpleton bickering and someone’s need to “be right.”

The only right thing to do is take care of those that have nothing, through no fault of their own.

If you read this weekend’s Parade magazine it’s a real eye-opener, and fodder for my next story no doubt.

I have been on the phone for the past 4 weeks calling mine and other senators, did not have very much traction at first but with every passing week the staffers tell me the calls from the 99 weekers are picking up, the senate wants to deal with just a segment of the unemployed while sweeping the long term under the rug and into obscurity I for one will not accept being treated as invisible.

    • Mark this is wonderful news! As someone (sorry I cannot remember who) started coining the phrase, “The squeaky wheel gets the grease!” your comments are a clear indication that those doing without any type of unemployment benefits assistance CAN, with determination and persistence, be heard. Of course a massive grassroots movement – vocal, faxing, emailing, etc., – goes a long way to being heard as a whole.

It’s either that or, as you state, allow yourself to be swept under the rug.

      That is NOT an option!

Guess I do not get to participate since I am a “77′er”.
Not everyone has received 99 weeks of pay and it hurts the
cause of the unemployed and laid off.

    • Leykis, you definitely get to participate. Start NOW. It’s coming for you as surely as it caught everyone else who is currently in the boat. Hopefully by adding your voice to the crowd the situation will not exist should you arrive at Point B.

Just because a person isn’t at that point is no reason to sit back and let it happen – to yourself or others suffering right this very moment.

I wish I could donate. My husband & I are both unemployed. We are in our fifties; he is on a first extension and I have 2 weeks left of regular unemployment. I am sending this through my tears. We have both worked forever ( couldn’t afford a sibling for our son- who is also barely employed). I pray every day for a change to the people’s hearts who are supposed to represent the people. Please put politics aside and look at your hearts. Do you really want to put us on the streets? Are we just to be thrown away? I implore you to do the right thing and take care of us. There are very few jobs out there, and at our age, when we have so much wisdom to impart, we should not be considered throwaways, but assets that deserve a fair chance in such a cold world. Please, please, please, look to your hearts.

    • Hi Becky! I’m not sure where you got the idea there were any donations involved, there aren’t. What is happening is a circulation of various petitions, sign them ALL, and people speaking up about speaking out. That you can do and for free (see toll free number above). While you have internet access, even if it’s a trip to the library to use one, plus emails and phone calls you DO HAVE A VOICE. Please use it!

There are many in Congress who do have hearts. It’s the ones that have hearts of ice who we need to melt.

Thank you Theresa and Issa for being an advocate for the 99ers and helping to get our voices heard.

The majority of the unemployed in our Country are middle-aged men and women who have been loyal employees; and who through no fault of their own were laid off due to the economy of our country. These are the men and women who have helped to make our Country Great, yet the long-term unemployed are in a constant struggle to receive their unemployment funds. There are hundreds of thousand who are unemployed throughout our country who have exhausted Tier IV of the unemployment extension at the end of February.  I fit into that category as I have not had a check in nine weeks, going on ten.

This number is increasing in monumental numbers as the rest of the unemployed exhaust their benefits. The Administration and Congress are well aware of this fact; yet they choose to ignore it, and once again brush the thousands-upon-thousands of unemployed in our country under the carpet. They say they don’t want our children and grandchildren to have to pay the huge deficit in our country; yet they do not seem to worry about the children in families who have lost their benefits, and facing the loss of their homes or apartments.

The major unemployment situation in our country should not be treated like the Hatfields & McCoys; the recently unemployed vs the long-term unemployed. Myself, and the other 30 million unemployed Americans, are growing increasingly tired of the temporary extensions enacted in the eleventh hour, which do not include all the unemployed.

There should be jobless benefits available for all the unemployed including the long-term who had to patiently wait until HR 4691 was finalized. Additional weeks should be added to Tier IV, or create a Tier V.

    • Hi Sandra, thank you for reading and supporting the news! And, frankly you’ve put it so succinctly I’m going to leave it at that. What I would do is copy and paste your own reply and use it as the basis for contacting Congress!

  14. nailah Gunther

your support when there seems to be no hope is great.
I too have exhausted my 99 weeks. I’m a single mom and terrified what’s going to happen. However, I am grateful for the extentions that I have received thus far. It has been a blessing. I would be grateful if we could receive something just a little while longer. I know it has to end at some point. But, hopefully we can find jobs soon and have pride again, confidence and not feel less than person not knowing where your next meal is coming from or how to get what you need for your children. The only way they could possibly understand is if they had to come home to their children with no money no job and no hope.

    • Hi Nailah, it’s readers like you (and frankly my own personal life) that make this so easy. I just wish I did NOT have to write about it. I wish Congress would do the right thing and take care of its citizens. When CEO’s are making 300:1 salaries, and the average worker is making less than 30 years ago there is something critically wrong with our country. When (rhetorical) did it become okay to just give, give, give, give to the rich and let the rest suffer.

Also, a comment herein about “amassing debt for our children” (when they gladly fund an unnecessary war on the other side of the planet) is, well, stupid. If our kids are living on the streets, will there BE any future generation TO worry about it?

  15. Greg

Thank you so very much World News Vine for your timely and needed reporting of this terrible situation that exists among the very-long-term unemployed. We needed you and you came through for us. Thank you!

    • Greg you are so welcome! Again, I really wish we did not have to even go here, but sticking our heads in the sand and hoping we’ll all wake up and this will have been a really bad nightmare isn’t going to happen. In the meantime, you can bet your booties we’re staying on top of this! Unemployment extensions should not “expire.” Not in my book. If anything, the government should “go into” the employment agency business, and, with all their contacts, most likely we’d all be back to work in no time. If they cared one iota.

  16. Thank-You for such an insightful article, on yet another government atrocity. This is America, no one should be treated this way. I certainly hope, something really good happens tomorrow, on this subject. We could all use to have a little faith restored in the system, and our government! Here’s hoping they listen, and do the right thing!

    • Barbara it’s a pleasure to see you, my friend! Yes, restoration of faith in our government “leaders” now wouldn’t that be a great surprise (and present) to wake up to tomorrow morning!

BTW, I just wanted to slip this in here that in today’s Parade, Glenn Beck (who really does not care about “you” (the royal you) at all except in terms of ratings) pulls in $23 million. How’s that strike everyone? Stir up trouble AND get paid handsomely for it… but that’s another news story.

4-12-10 NOTHING in the media about Tier 5 benefits!!! All these long-term unemployed NEED Tier 5 until consistent job creation happens. There is still nothing out there – we need jobs but until then, I need the child support my ex (over 99 weeks out of work) provided. His benefits ran out 2 weeks ago and I will not be able to pay May rent. Even though I work 2 jobs I am underemployed and cannot even afford insurance, since I lost a great job 2 years ago. My kids and I will be homeless and hungry. TIER 5 TO SURVIVE!!!!

    • Hi Laura, hence the reason to be heard. Today’s acts in Congress never included consideration for those who have already exhausted benefits. It wasn’t included before they took their “break” nor was it added since their return today.

That is why the call to action to be heard for all in your same situation is so very important.

If action is not taken by the people for the people – meaning you and everyone in that boat (or soon to be) – to gain recognition, respect, and additional unemployment benefits, then nothing will happen to help you (and all).

Thus the petitions, calls, etc. Please take a stand for yourself and help others at the same time. Be heard.

    NELP IS worthless.

They are in bed with the same politicians that cannot extend benefits and sat on the fence while we suffered for three months last year with no benefits.REMEMBER?

The NELP staff has done nothing on TIER 5 long term unemployment for greater than 99 weeks.

The entire staff of NELP needs to be fired and unemployed. They need new blood so they can do what is required to help the long term unemployed.

Check out the web sight for NELP.
This TIER 5 and long term unemployment should be on the main home page. But its not important enough to them. Where is NELPS priorities. Fisrt things first NELP>

with friends like Nelp who needs enemies?

    • Hi NewNew, the Tier V cannot appear on their front page because there currently is no such animal, not in the sense of those having already exhausted their benefits.

That’s what this newest “movement” is all about – making Washington aware that there are already millions that have “been through the system” and come out the other side with zero, zip, zilch, nada left.

And, no options, currently no representation.

It’s about the forgotten being heard in Washington. Not allowing the numbers to be “played with” to make it look like unemployment is getting better. Falling off a roll call is not “making things better.” It’s just not being counted any longer. Hence, unemployment can be made to appear to be “slowing.”

Extensions are necessary. Getting heard to get additional assistance is every man and woman’s job. We are We The People.

Our complacency that someone will come along and “do the hard work for us” is wrong. We sat back and allowed the last administration to do whatever they wanted, whenever they wanted. And it put us in a terrible fix.

Get involved in government, be active in representing yourself and those in need.

(I know you are, but I’m making a point for those reading who get to this section that it’s not a matter of “why didn’t it pass” it is the matter that “it’s just not there, never has been, but needs TO be” which means everyone stepping up and doing their part to make sure your Congress people represent you – the forgotten.)

  19. NEWNEWDEAL

To continue our battle for tier V euc 99 weeks long term extension…

    We must all call and write at least 7 calls per day and 7 letters;
    Mix the letters between your state house and senate leaders;
    Add in Pelosi and Reid plus Obama and BIDEN;
Dont forget Bunning Coburn Kyle and Demint.
Flood them they are starting to wake up!!!!

We are making progress but we are fighting this on our own.

    Here is NELPS last blurb:

“But Democratic and Republican leadership offices in the House and Senate were unaware of any plan to add a new tier of benefits. Judy Conti, a lobbyist for the National Employment Law Project, told HuffPost that the idea of an additional tier has no traction even among the most liberal lawmakers.

“When it has come up to congressional offices, they said ‘We’re not there yet, there’s not the political will for a Tier 5,’” Conti said. “If one of his justifications for his heartless action is legislation that doesn’t even exist, it seems to me his objections are even more specious than we thought.”

Hey Conti wake up. Its your job to get us that traction along with all your other buddies at NELP.

Put the rubber on the road Conti so we can get some traction.
Respond back to ANYONE ANY POLITICIAN PRESS ETC that isnt aware:\

    1) Lives are in the balance on this Tier V 99 week plus extension.

    2) Tier V needs 4/7/13/20/26 weeks NOW>

    3) We are in an economic tsunami; The bad part comes next.
The economy is going to get a lot worse before it gets better.

    4) CONTI you must be cruel to be kind with these politicians.
BURN BRIDGES NOW if you must.
For the long term unemployed you must go the extra mile now.

If you keep on doing what your doing we will keep on getting what we are getting.

Your so respectable . NELP turn up the heat on these polticians press etc now.

They claim to be fighting tooth and nail for us. REALLY?

  20. KC

I wish to thank all who have been involved in this effort. I am currently at a friend’s house using her PC to claim my last week. I was very involved in the efforts to pass Tier IV before all my utilities were cut off and from that experience feel that our elected officials will only act if and when they feel like it and do not pay much attention to a “blitz”. I too am middle-aged and have suffered practically every indignity imaginable, living every day with tears and fear. If it is any consolation, possibly due to larger amounts of this kind of thing happening, my teenage daughter and I are not on the streets yet. My house was auctioned off in February for back taxes and they have not tried to evict us yet. It had been the only way we had a roof since we did not have to pay rent since it was completely paid off, and it is hard to beleive, but thanbk goodness that others have been able to accomplish it. Of all the many atrocities we and others have suffered I really hate begging for rolls of toilet paper, even when we could not flush the toilet.

    • Hi KC, so many stories that need to be heard, and yours is one that one would think would strike terror in the icy hearts of those in Washington who believe “all” Americans are against helping other Americans in their time of need. Remarks like Coburn’s (current prior to vote story today) should serve as a warning TO all Americans – especially those fortunate enough to be (presently) holding down jobs.

Again, as a reminder, a friend of mine, not unkindly, told me that since none of this affects him and his, he never thinks about it/us.

20 million affected Americans; another 230 million (not accurate but close) who are not. The 90% more than willing to help with any outside-this-country problem, war, disaster, yet never once stop to see things right outside their own door. It’s a shame. Americans are generous, but we also need to be generous for and to each other, and aware of what is really happening right here at home.

In Colorado, @ 7.7% unemployment, we do not qualify for Tier IV. I am 55 yrs old, unemployed since Feb. 2008, and have no medical coverage. Past due phone, rent, and car payments. Stopped paying any debts a while ago. It angers me that Congressman and Senators get; paid travel around the world, thousands of dollars given to them to support an unemployment bill or any bill, just to mention a couple.
New car incentives, new appliance incentives, bail out banks, wall street, etc., etc.. I don’t believe all politicians that travel, need to. Quit spending money on silly, unnecessary for survival, things in this country. I am totally confused as to the common sense this Government claims to have. People starving, homeless, ill, hurt- What did I pay for, all the years my government took my money in taxes, for? I know the other bills in Congress and in the Senate are important, but why isn’t total focus on helping the people first, then worry about a bill that takes effect in four years.

    • Editor
      Editor

      Pamela,

What is your background or employment skills…. I have written time and time again pointing that this “magic” number is meaningless..

      Robert

      • Hi Pamela, what the remarks (Editor) above mean is that we are all in trouble as election time approaches. Manipulating numbers to give out that “feel good” for the next voting session is scary. The real number of unemployed in your state is most likely much higher due to the fact that like your story there are different “tiers” for each state. This doesn’t mean people are not unemployed, they are, just not being helped financially through any source.

Here in Nevada they keep saying 13.2 to 13.9% unemployed. Yet thousands have been out of work and exhausted all help. The number is much higher. Polls, statistics, manipulation.

Even my statement of 20 million is most likely not accurate. However, obtaining real numbers is nigh impossible since no one is counting everyone, nor counting correctly.

        • Pamela
          Pamela

          T. Cahill, Thank you for clarifying the statement. Are you saying that the unemployment rate published (7.7%) is based only on people actually receiving benefits, not including people, who like me, have exhausted benefits? Tier IV would become available to Coloradoans if a true number were revealed. This is clearly a misrepresentation, should be illegal, and deprives many people of their deserved and rightful money. What can we do?

          • Hi Pamela, you’ve got to keep in mind that typically the “current” number is at least a month behind the times. At least I know it is here in Nevada. And yes, if a person is “no longer on the books” so to speak, they don’t count anymore – not right, but that’s accounting for you.

Also, when you see in the paper 9.7% nationally, that is an average. Lowest and highest and all those inbetween divided by 50 and voila! the magic “9.7%” or whatever they claim it to be… once again not counting those who still don’t have jobs yet do not qualify any longer for unemployment benefits.

            Misleading, yes.

  23. AY
    AY

    T. Cahill,

You should do a article on NELP and the lack of support they are showing the unemployed and mainly long term unemployed people who need the immediate help. What is the point of NELP if they do not represent the one’s they are suppose to support. Seems like a POINTLESS organization. If you notice WorldNewsVine has been doing more for long term unemployed people than NELP has. The biggest employment issue now= long term unemployed/99ers. No mention of them on the NELP website which means they are doing nothing. I wonder where NELP’s funding comes from, hmm?

    • Hi AY, we’ve been so busy here just trying to stay on top of current going’s on that some things “slip through the cracks.” I will, however, take a hard look at NELP. Thanks!

      • tomz

        T. CAHILL FOR PRESIDENT!!! A TRUE HONEST, AND CARING LEADER!!

        • LOL tomz, thanks for your “vote” of confidence. My temptation though would be to totally reorganize everything, I’m a very ergonomic/logistic sort of person, and I’m sure that wouldn’t go over too well on Capitol Hill :)

    • Hi AY, an update to my comment. I visited the NELP website and yes, it is an organization designed to stick up for the rights of mis/under-represented workers. However, I did not get the sense that they are directly involved in situations such as this unemployment crisis. A small portion of the NELP introduction reads, “workers routinely face violations of minimum wage and overtime laws, unsafe working conditions, discrimination, and retaliation for speaking up or trying to organize” – this appears to be what NELP is all about.

I’d stick with direct contact with Washington – personally and as a group via petitions, phone calls, emails, etc.

Sometimes the hard work falls directly upon ourselves.

OVER 250,000 WILL LOSE THEIR UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS THIS WEEK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CONGRESS NEEDS TO ADD A TIER V!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My unemployment ran out last week. I thought I was ok because I kept hearing how Obama signed the extension in place. The extension he signed was only an extension to QUALIFY for unemployment benefits! It is NOT an extension of benefits (as in tier 5) like it read in so many articles! How misleading! So I guess me falling off the unemployment roll will make it look like the unemployment rate is going down. Multiply this by THOUSANDS/MILLIONS and the unemployment rate will really be declining soon. I wonder what the REAL unemployment rate is? Also, Obama is proving to be not so much for the average person and more for bailing out huge corporations and foreign aid. The only thing we can do is contact our representatives and let them not forget how bad it is out there and we need a Tier 5. And to think they just voted themselves a raise, YET THEY PUT THIS UNEMPLOYMENT EXTENSION BY WAY OF TIER 5 ON HOLD SO THAT THEY CAN GO ON THEIR EASTER VACATION!!!!!!!!! SOME WAY TO RUN A GOVERNMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The HR 4213 touted as extending vital unemployment benefits through the end of this year, does NO SUCH THING. IT DOES NOT ADD 1 single week of additional Jobless benefits for anyone who has exhausted all of their benefits (the 99ers)!! All that H.R. 4213 does as far as unemployment benefits is help the shorter term unemployed. In truth it does absolutely NOTHING FOR THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN DILIGENTLY LOOKING for a job ANY job for over two years now. The LONG TERM unemployed are the ones who need the most help.

It’s a game of political chicken: Democrats and Republicans in the Senate are each gambling that the other side will look worse for the lapse. Senate Republicans blocked the Democrats’ $9 billion proposal to extend the programs on an emergency basis (without a funding offset); Democrats rejected a Republican proposal to pay for the programs by raiding stimulus bill funds. Party leadership in the Senate had apparently negotiated a one-week stopgap extension with a funding offset, which Senate Republicans said House Democrats rejected.

The National Employment Law Project estimates that 212,000 people will lose eligibility for EUC benefits this week. And many more people will be told by state workforce agencies that unless Congress does something, they too will exhaust all of their benefits.

Unfortunately, there will NOT be a Tier 5. There is no money left to add additional tiers of unemployment. Unless you live in Haiti, the US government won’t help you.

That is NOT true. Just got off the phone with Senator Charles Schumer’s secretary and was told that a Tier V is in the works of going through. Was told that they are now working out the kinks. Keep your hopes up.

    TIER V Tier V Tier TIER V

Here is the last message i left for NANCY PELOSI
Ii have been calling and emailing her and the house senate and president for two months now:
Please clone this and do the same with calls and letters.
call 7 times instead of 1
email 7 times instead of 1

    Dear Nancy,

Has your staff told you or showed you the thousands upon thousands of calls and letters in regards to TIER V UNEMPLOYMENT EXTENSIONS for the 2 million who have used 99 weeks and need a lifeline emergency extension?
All house and senate are getting them in volume. Democrats and republicans.
But the silence on TIER V is amazing!!!

It seems to be falling upon deaf ears in congress!!

A march on Washington is being planned now.

Lives are in the balance on this!!!
These Americans by no fault of their own
Cannot find work after nearly two years!!!

We are in an economic depression not seen since the 1930’s.

An economic tsunami is coming to every shore in America soon.
Economist will call it a double dip recession That was unexpected.
I will call it a part 2 depression.

The jobs that were added in March were federal census jobs that last only a few weeks so please for your own credibility do not play that card.

This economic crisis was caused by the republicans and some democrats as well.
Also the banks wall street and the rich are to blame.
They were to big to fail and we bailed then out instead of the working class and unemployed! shame shame shame.

Please inform your fellow congressmen on both sides this TIER V greater than 99 weeks unemployment extension issue WILL cost them the election.
Not health care not the rest. This TIER V will.

do you have hearts?. Pay for this anyway you have to but pass it now.

PLease wake your friends in WAshington.
THis is not going away it will get louder and louder until TIER V is passed!!!

This is the worst job market in history!!!!!

The future is now TIER V TIER V TIER V

I believe real economic numbers will go down in the next 6-12 months, plus unemployment numbers will go down as 99er’s are dropped from the rolls. Pumping un- funded money this way might seem crazy but I believe it has already had positive effects and has cooled the downturn significantly. Now the real depression will set in, tent cities, food banks bare, medicare costs up. Giving a small check to 30,000,000 Americans for 3 years seems crazy, as the saying goes, crazy enough to work. What only 14,000,000 getting checks today or at the max level for this depression? 30,000,000 are going to need them before this is over, and the less costly way is usually the first way…. They are seeing who’s dumb enough to be fooled twice on stocks before profit ‘taking’ from the seriously stupid state investors, (or are the money managers for the states sending their peoples money that way on purpose?), or the silly individual,(thinking your going to get back from the thieves what they stole from you once?) thieves steal, remember? They (Congress) are going to let long term unemployed go off the rolls for the good looks. Good luck America you might have not been celler dwellers in this world economic downturn had you all have listened to the 99er’s. Celler dwellers with 17-18%, 29-30% real unemployed you will have. Venison and moonshine anyone? Remember?

Congress leaves 99ers out in the cold

    Greetings

    Senators and Representatives:

You should be ashamed of yourselves, and here’s why.

    You’re failing them again.

You have decided to ignore the people you reduced to poverty. This includes all who have exhausted their ui benefits whatever the total of weeks, 99,72,39… The longest unemployed workers did not create this depression, you did. You did this with your failure to regulate the banks, health industry, and corporations. People who were fully employed, paying taxes, and raising families are now paying the price for your negligence. They trusted you to keep something like this from happening. You failed them.

Now you are deliberately failing them again. This may be a recession for you, but it’s a depression for them. You knew this depression would last longer than until March, yet you had and have no plans to add additional unemployment tiers to keep these people from becoming increasingly destitute. Tens of thousands began to lose all financial support on March 14. This is increasing to hundreds of thousands, and will be millions if you don’t enact another tier. You know with full clarity that these benefits were the only money keeping food on their tables. You know that the benefits ran out in March, and that these American families are on the path to shelters and soup kitchens.

…and this is not of their making. They’re not to blame. You are.
…and you discounted them again by allowing their benefits to end with Tier IV.

By the way, don’t pride yourself on extending the current benefits for the more recently unemployed. Of course you should have done this, but as you know, the bill as it is written did not help any of those who have been the longest and hardest hit by this depression. The Bill only half addresses the unemployed, and 50% is an F.
Please make sure that the only choice for Americans who want to work is either a job or unemployment benefits. Don’t end benefits until there are jobs for them. As of now, there is only 1 job for every 6 unemployed workers. Take care of these victims.
    ADD A TIER V
