Suicide Attack in Zabul, Afghanistan Kills Two Civilians and Two Security Guards

Kabul, Afghanistan (Apr 25) – A suicide bomber attack in Shajoy, Zabul killed two civilians, two security guards and wounded several others.

Afghan and ISAF troops responding to the scene provided medical care for injured Afghani civilians and transported the more serious wounded to hospitals. The attack occurred early this morning just as the bazaar was opening.

In Farah Province, an emergency landing by a contract helicopter due to mechanical failure caused no injuries to the occupants but the resulting fire left the helicopter unsalvageable.

In other operations, Afghan-international forces killed one militant, detaining several others while in purist of a Taliban commander in Kunduz. As forces moved in on a compound in Mulla Quli, an armed individual approached forces in a threatening manner and was shot and killed.

In Helmand Province, joint security forces attempted to stop a vehicle driven by suspected militants, shots were exchanged killing three insurgents. Among the dead was a Taliban commander involved in weapons delivery and battle damage assessments.

In Wahser, Helmand narcotics and weapons were seized following leads provided by local citizens. In addition, in Helmand Afghan-international forces discovered a weapons cache containing five 60mm mortar rounds. The cache was destroyed.

No Afghan civilians were harmed during these operations.
