Phoenix, AZ (Apr 20) – Arizona is one step closer to doing the unthinkable in their attempt to “control illegal aliens” and “step up” their fight against illegal immigration. Lawmakers are preparing to give the power to the police to stop anyone they deem “suspicious” and, literally, allow them to ask for “papers” to prove that person or persons belong in the United States.
Striking more than one nerve, that of scenes from a World War movie, the idea that “demanding papers”, giving unregulated and irresponsible power to racially profile people at will has Arizona Representative Raul Grijalva up at arms. Smacking of violations to basic civil rights, such power would allow officers to stop anyone and everyone, at any time.
The frightening part is the House has already passed the bill to the State Senate. It may be just a few votes away from heading to the Governor’s office for her signature.
In response, Representative Raul Grijalva is ready to call for a boycott of his own state. Grijalva stated that he would recommend businesses and individuals not spend their money in Arizona, thus boycotting the entire state.
Called “heinous” by Keith Olbermann of Countdown, he stated it will open the door to abusive enforcement to “stop people of color at will.”
