Papers Please | Arizona Rep Grijalva Ready To Call for State Boycott

Phoenix, AZ (Apr 20) – Arizona is one step closer to doing the unthinkable in their attempt to “control illegal aliens” and “step up” their fight against illegal immigration. Lawmakers are preparing to give the power to the police to stop anyone they deem “suspicious” and, literally, allow them to ask for “papers” to prove that person or persons belong in the United States.

Striking more than one nerve, that of scenes from a World War movie, the idea that “demanding papers”, giving unregulated and irresponsible power to racially profile people at will has Arizona Representative Raul Grijalva up at arms. Smacking of violations to basic civil rights, such power would allow officers to stop anyone and everyone, at any time.

The frightening part is the House has already passed the bill to the State Senate. It may be just a few votes away from heading to the Governor’s office for her signature.

In response, Representative Raul Grijalva is ready to call for a boycott of his own state. Grijalva stated that he would recommend businesses and individuals not spend their money in Arizona, thus boycotting the entire state.

Called “heinous” by Keith Olbermann of Countdown, he stated it will open the door to abusive enforcement to “stop people of color at will.”

Doesn’t Arizona already mandate to be enrolled in the republican party and have a swastika burned into every newborns’, and residents rear-end?

What about that neo-Nazi Kyl they have out there good lord or that insane Sheriff “Joe” or whatever he calls himself other than grand master of the white supremacist race

Hi Scott, more than a tad excessive response in my opinion (been to Phoenix and Scottsdale and Flagstaff more than my far share of times), but everyone is entitled to their opinion. The state citizen’s as a whole, hopefully, are up at arms over this for themselves, let alone the Union as a whole.

As for their sherrif, frankly I admire the guy. I just pray no one I know ever is incarcerated there, I’ve seen the tent city at 116 degrees in the summer… yikes!

So you admire a man that advocates profiling of Mexican communities? I live in AZ and I think Sheriff Joe is the Gestapo incarnate. It is rumored that he has to hire private security to protect himself from his own people.

As an AZ resident, I am horrified by this. However, we can all rest assured that if it does indeed become a law, it won’t stay that way. A federal court will strike the law down as unconstitutional. Thank God for checks and balances.
