NATO ISAF Press Release

Kandahar, Afghanistan (Apr 16) – A large explosion in Kandahar City targeting civilians resulted in nine Afghani’s being evacuated and treated by ISAF and Afghanistan National Security Forces.

In a separate incident in Kandahar last evening, security forces came under fire as they approached a suspected Taliban hideout. Two insurgents were killed in the ensuing gun battle, as the Taliban cell leader decided then, to surrender to security forces.

In Marjah, combined forces captured a Taliban commander known to be involved in several suicide bombings, and shipment of arms to insurgents throughout Helmand Province.

Upon approach to the suspected Taliban’s compound orders were given for the occupants to exit the compound but, refused. Afghani Special Police then entered the compound leading the way for combined forces. The Police were confronted aggressively by one insurgent as a result was shot and killed.

No civilians were injured in either of these two operations.
