Kyrgyzstan, (Apr 09) – President Bakiyev has released a statement that he is willing to negotiate with the opposition government that he refers to as the “temporary government” that has taken control in a bloody uprising.
The BBC is reporting they have been in contact with the President via phone however; he refused to disclose his location.
Looters continue to trash the capital as reporters are reporting gunfire can still be heard across the town, as riot police continue to battle hundreds of protestors.
The current de facto government set in place by opposition leader Roza Otunbayeva appears to still has not solidified her control over the country although, she has held a news conference stating she will remain in power until elections are held in six months. “What we did yesterday was our answer to the repression and tyranny against the people by the Bakiyev regime,” she said.
U.S. officials have stated that operations at the Manas base, “has not been seriously affected”. Ms Otunbayeva has mentioned that the “status quo would remain” regarding the issue.
U.S. envoy spoke with Ms. Otunbayeva on late Thursday in Bishkek calling for calm and the respect of diplomatic principles.
It is uncertain at this time exactly how ousted President Bakiyev plans on regaining control of the capital.

Apparently he DOESN’T plan on regaining control of the capital. He’s trying to cut a deal to get out of there: http://bit.ly/bnXFD4
