Washington, D.C. (Apr 20) – The Obama Administration is under fire for its handling of the investigation regarding the shootings that took the lives of 13 people and injured 32 others at Fort Hood, TX. by Major Hasan.
Senator Lieberman (I-CT), committee chairman is seeking to prove that the Joint Terrorist Task Force along with he National Terrorism Take Force in Washington, had prior knowledge of Major Hasan, the alleged shooter and email communications with Anwar al-Awiaki, a U.S. born Yemen based imam with links to three of the 911 hijackers.
Speaking with reporters Senator Lieberman stated, “There were repeated signals being sent off by Major Hasan that he was a potential danger,” adding “We want specific information on what those signals were and why was nothing done about them.”
The Senate Committee is also seeking from the administration secret documents that were passed along to former Army Secretary West, Jr. and retired Admiral Clark both special investigators appointed to the case along with, Hasan’s personal file, and any documents that would provide any indication that intelligence sources had in fact, suspected Hasan’s personal activities prior to the shooting spree, were in support of terrorist organizations with links here in the U.S.
Subpoenas regarding these matters have been issued to both Defense Secretary Robert Gates, and U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, to which they both have until Monday April 26, to produce.
The Pentagon countered this argument stating they’ve already have surrendered hundreds of documents and release of any further information could possibly taint their case regarding selection of a partial and unbiased jury. Obviously referring to, possible pre-trial leaks of these classified documents.
Both Senator Joe Lieberman chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, and Senator Susan Collins ranking republican on the committee outlined their suspicions within the subpeona. The Senators fear a government cover-up regarding this investigation.
Major Hasan remains hospitalized after being wounded and partially paralyzed as a result of his wounds.
